HomeMy WebLinkAbout2006 05-16 EBDM Earle Brown Days Meeting Minutes May 16, 2006 PRESENT: Cathy Ballot, Nancy Doucette, John Stewart, Ritchie Miller, Shelley Klaessy, Mike Meyer, Karen Youngberg, Phil Cohen, and Sue LaCrosse Karen Youngberg called the meeting to order at 8:05 a.m. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: There was a motion by Cathy Ballot, seconded by Mike Meyer to approve the minutes of the April 18, 2006 meeting. Motion carried. TREASURER’S REPORT: Cathy Ballot reported $6,491.93 in checking, $12,171.73 in the CD for a total of $18,663.66. The CD is due May 22. Cathy will move it to the checking account until after Earle Brown Days. There was a motion by Nancy Doucette, seconded by John Stewart to approve the treasurer’s report. Motion carried. ARTS & CRAFTS FAIR: Sue LaCrosse said there are 13 crafters and three food vendors, including the Lions. The income so far is $705. Karen Youngberg said Bridgeman’s is trying to find someone to work. She suggested we maybe look at revamping the arts & crafts fair next year. BINGO : Cathy Ballot said they are planning on it. FAMILY FUN & GAMES: Karen Youngberg would like a contact name from the BC Women’s Club. She is hoping to get some of them to help make door prize solicitations. They are still looking for someone to help chair this committee. ICE CREAM SOCIAL: Shelley Klaessy said there is nothing new to report. KID’S FISHING CONTEST: Sue LaCrosse reported a $300 donation received from BrookPark Dental. She said they have received about 20 entries for the Name the Dolphin Contest. Shelley Klaessy will present the child with the winning name the gift certificate from Brookdale. The Park & Recreation Chairman will present the other awards. MUSIC/FIREWORKS: Sue LaCrosse said we have received $1,000 from Bremer Bank to help sponsor Midnight Breeze and $1,000 from SourceOne Federal Credit Union to help sponsor the fireworks. There is a verbal commitment of $2,000 from the Fire Relief Association. PARADE: Nancy Doucette reported we have only two bands Champlin Park and Monticello. We have two drum groups, including Brooklyn Center High School. Mike Meyer said they have eliminated the grand stnd champion award. $700 is budgeted for 1 Place and $500 for 2 Place in AAA. Nancy Doucette said they are considering charging an entry fee next year. Sue LaCrosse said that might have to include letting them distribute literature and this involves cleanup. The scouts are lined up to deliver the neighbor letters. Sue LaCrosse will e-mail the neighborhood letters to Nancy for any revisions. She will also try to find out any information about Humboldt Ave construction. PHOTOGRAPHER: John Stewart reported he will take pictures of the parade and the Saturday afternoon events. He asked for input from committee members on what he should do differently. PUBLICITY: Sue LaCrosse has a meeting with Aaron of the Sun Post to discuss the tabloid. He is having trouble getting ads from Brooklyn Center businesses. She will give him Karen Youngberg’s phone number to contact in relation to the BCBA. Karen Youngberg will have Lauri Winters contact Sue for the BC Buzz. Sue LaCrosse will send “crafters needed” information to Sarah at the Sun Post. Our Radio Disney event is now listed on their website. Sue LaCrosse submitted community calendar information on-line to the four television stations. She has heard from WCCO and KMSP, who will put on FOX 9 KMSP and 29 WFTC. Flyers will be available at the next meeting. Sue LaCrosse asked if Cathy Ballot new about Wells Fargo sponsorship of Radio Disney for publicity purposes. Cathy Ballot said she thinks they are committed. She will find out for sure and check to see if they want their logo on the flyers. TRIVIA CONTEST: No report. BUDGET/FINANCE: The committee reviewed the revised budget spreadsheet. There was a motion by Phil Cohen, seconded by Cathy Ballot to approve the revised budget worksheet. Motion carried. OTHER EVENTS: No report. BILL PAYMENT City of Brooklyn Center $ 24.57 Postage Centerbrook $749.00 Donated for golf tournaments There was a motion by Ritchie Miller, seconded by Mike Meyer to approve payment. Motion carried. NEW BUSINESS: Nancy Doucette suggested inviting various mascots to attend the dolphin’s first birthday party next year. NEXT MEETING:Council/Commission Conference Tuesday, June 6, 2006 at 8:00 a.m. in the Room, lower level at CITY HALL.
