HomeMy WebLinkAbout2007 05-15 EBDM Earle Brown Days Meeting Minutes May 15, 2007 PRESENT: Mike Meyer, Shelley Klaessy, Phil Cohen, Karen Youngberg, Councilmember Mary O’Connor, Cathy Ballot, Nancy Doucette, Kathleen Carmody, and Sue LaCrosse. Karen Youngberg called the meeting to order at 8:05 a.m. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: There was a motion by Cathy Ballot, seconded by Shelley Klaessy to approve the minutes of the April 24, 2007 meeting. Motion carried. TREASURER’S REPORT : After deposits and payment of bills, the balance in checking is $22,553.02. There was a motion by Cathy Ballot, seconded by Shelley Klaessy to accept the treasurer’s report. Motion carried. BINGO : Cathy Ballot said it is on and Pat Milton is working on getting the permit. CRAFT & BUSINESS EXPO: Karen Youngberg said that Joy Reinhart and Deb Lester will co-chair the expo. Sue LaCrosse said Toni Johns threw away the records from previous years. Joy emailed Karen and Sue and said she has about 26 exhibitors interested. BUDGET/FINANCE: Sue LaCrosse reviewed the budget spreadsheet. She also said that Brooklyn Park has some donations from businesses that reside in Brooklyn Center. She filled out an online request at Caribou Coffee’s website. She will print a letter for Evans-Nordby. FAMILY FUN & GAMES: Karen Youngberg, Ritchie Miller and Shane Mason need to sit down and discuss everything because Shane will be out of town and Ritchie may be out of town on June 23. She is hoping to get someone from Rotary to run things that day. Phil Cohen will do the announcing again. They will shoot to be done by 3:45 p.m. Karen Youngberg is still looking for people to help get gift certificates and prizes. Councilmember Mary O’Connor said she would help. ICE CREAM SOCIAL: Shelley Klaessy reported everything is set. KID’S FISHING CONTEST: Sue LaCrosse said everything is set. Phil Cohen has talked to the police chief and he will be there. MUSIC/FIREWORKS: No report. PARADE: Mike Meyer reported he is getting lots of calls. House of Hui Lucky Lion Dance team will be in the parade. Councilmember Kay Lasman, Mayor Pro Tem will be at the band awards ceremony. Phil Cohen asked Sue LaCrosse to check on the liability of throwing candy if someone gets hurt, even though we have done everything possible to notify units not to do so. He also asked her to check on volunteer liability. PHOTOGRAPHER: No report. 1 PUBLICITY: Karen Youngberg or Mike Meyer will check on the possibility of promoting at Cub via flyers, posters or on the carts. It was suggested we design a poster focusing on the free events being held on Saturday. It is the assumption that if people come for the free events they will patronize the craft & business expo. There was a motion by Kathleen Carmody, seconded by Mike Meyer to pay the Brooklyn Center Leo club $150 to distribute these posters around the business community. Motion carried. Sue LaCrosse will send some flyers to the daycares. Shelley will put some by the play area at Brookdale. The committee wants all signs printed by Fast Signs, to say printed by Fast Signs. Sue will call Jaimie to see how he wants it worded. Nancy Doucette suggested on the banners we have printed this band sponsored by ________. This way we can reuse them. RADIO DISNEY: No report. SENIOR GOLF TOURNAMENT: No report. TRIVIA CONTEST: No report. OTHER EVENTS: Sue LaCrosse had pancake breakfast flyers available and Karen Youngberg handed out tickets for presales. Shelley Klaessy, Mike Meyer, Cathy Ballot, Kathleen Carmody, Councilmember Mary O’Connor and Sue LaCrosse can help. NEW BUSINESS: Phil Cohen suggested checking Big Lots for certificate frames. There was a motion by Kathleen Carmody, seconded by Mike Meyer to approve payment of bills in the amount of $11.16 to the City of Brooklyn Center for postage and $1,107 for insurance. Motion carried. NEXT MEETING: Council/Commission Conference Tuesday, June 5, 2007 at 8:00 a.m. in the Room, lower level at CITY HALL. Meeting Schedule: June 5, June 12, June 19, 2007 ADJOURN: There was a motion by Nancy Doucette, seconded by Councilmember Mary O’Connor to adjourn the meeting.
