HomeMy WebLinkAbout2008 06-03 EBDM Earle Brown Days Meeting Minutes June 3, 2008 PRESENT: Mike Meyer, Cathy Ballot, Phil Cohen, Councilmember Mary O’Connor, Joy Reinhart, Kathleen Carmody and Sue LaCrosse. Phil Cohen called the meeting to order at 4:00 p.m. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: There was a motion by Mike Meyer, seconded by Cathy Ballot to approve the minutes of the May 20, 2008 meeting. Motion carried. TREASURER’S REPORT : Cathy Ballot reported $8,486.06 in checking and $15,568.25 in the CD for a total of $24,054.31. There was a motion by Kathleen Carmody, seconded by Mike Meyer to approve the treasurer’s report. BUDGET/FINANCE: Sue LaCrosse highlighted the changes and additions to the budget proposal. We have received a number of new craft & business exhibitors, picked up one more donation of $505.00 from Cass Screw and a couple more paid units for the parade. The portable restroom charge for the parade will be a little more because of the number of participants. CRAFT & BUSINESS EXPO: Joy Reinhart reported 29 exhibitors. She said the letters will go out. They have a new map. She needs four Rotarians for the 7:00-11:00 a.m. shift and two for the 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. shift. Coffee and donuts will be provided by the mini donut vendor. DUNKIN BIRTHDAY PARTY : Sue LaCrosse ordered a personalized birthday CD for Dunkin’s party and has added some new games. FACE PAINTING: No report. FAMILY FUN & GAMES: Councilmember Mary O’Connor has gotten gift certificates from Pep Boys, Perkins, Christy’s Auto, and Davanni’s. Kathleen needs approximately 100 prizes. She will bring a chart to the next meeting. We need four Rotarians to bring the winners over for their prizes. Councilmember Mary O’Connor will spot the three winners and three Rotarians will bring them over for their prize. HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL: No report. HONOR THE VETERANS: Phil Cohen would like the Historical Society to get involved because it is such an important part of Brooklyn Center history. He has received preliminary approval from the Legion and the Palmer Lake VFW. The flags might be donated. There was a motion by Cathy Ballot, seconded by Mike Meyer for Phil Cohen to draft a proposal and timeline and to get this proposal to the VFW and Legion for their approval. Motion carried. ICE CREAM SOCIAL: Mike Meyer will contact Cindy a couple weeks before the event. Sue LaCrosse said she saw the ice cream social and trivia contest on their website calendar. KID’S FISHING CONTEST: Phil Cohen said the donation from BrookPark Dental is coming. 1 MAGIC SHOW : No report. MUSIC/FIREWORKS: No report. PARADE: Mike Meyer reported Linda Berglund will be the commentator again. The Aquatennial will honor Henry Dorff. It was suggested that Henry Dorff be grand marshal. Mike will need some checks. It looks like we will have the premier parade in the north area this year. PUBLICITY: The first choice for taping the Northwest Cities program is Monday, June 9 at 10 a.m. and the second choice is at 2 p.m. Sue LaCrosse will contact Ann Gallagher to schedule it. SENIOR GOLF TOURNAMENT: No report. TRIVIA CONTEST: Kathleen Carmody has the topics planned. The questions are still to come. OTHER EVENTS: The Readmobile is on and Kathleen Carmody will e-mail Diane Sannes a couple weeks before to confirm. OLD BUSINESS: Kathleen Carmody asked about the Centennial Committee meeting. Mike Meyer said 80 invitations were sent and about 18 attended the meeting. He said a lot of ideas were brought up. Kathleen Carmody questioned whether it would be in conflict with Earle Brown Days. Sue LaCrosse said the city manager wants Earle Brown Days and other established events, such as Holly Sunday to be part of the Centennial Celebration. NEW BUSINESS: Bill approval: Tri State Judges $350.00 Band Judges There was a motion by Kathleen Carmody, seconded by Joy Reinhart to approve payment of bill. Sue LaCrosse said Big Brothers/Big Sisters organization is interested in volunteering. She will check on the ages and their availability and report back at the next meeting. EXT MEETING: Room 221 (upper level) at the N Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at 4:00 p.m. in the COMMUNITY CENTER. Meeting schedule: Tuesday, June 10, Tuesday, June 17, Tuesday, June 24 at 4:00 p.m. at the community center.
