HomeMy WebLinkAbout2008 09-16 EBDM Earle Brown Days Meeting Minutes September 16, 2008 PRESENT: Mike Meyer, Cathy Ballot, Phil Cohen, Karen Youngberg, Kathleen Carmody, Councilmember Mary O’Connor and Sue LaCrosse. Karen Youngberg called the meeting to order at 4:00 p.m. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: There was a motion by Cathy Ballot, seconded by Mike Meyer to approve the minutes of the July 15, 2008 meeting. Motion carried. TREASURER’S REPORT : Cathy Ballot reported $18,493.77 in checking. There was a motion by Phil Cohen, seconded by Cathy Ballot to approve the Treasurer’s Report. Motion carried. There was a motion by Kathleen Carmody, seconded by Mike Meyer to approve payment of a bill for $94.31 to the City of Brooklyn Center for supplies. Motion carried. RENEWAL OF BOARD MEMBER TERMS: There was a motion by Mike Meyer, seconded by Kathleen Carmody to approve renewal of a three year board term to 2011 for Phil Cohen. Motion carried. APPROVAL OF OFFICERS: There was a motion by Phil Cohen, seconded by Mike Meyer to approve the 2008-09 officers as Chair - Kathleen Carmody; Vice-Chair - Karen Youngberg; Treasurer - Cathy Ballot; Secretary - Sue LaCrosse. Motion carried. BUDGET/FINANCE: Phil Cohen would like to adopt a budget for 2009, 2010 and 2011 as soon as possible. He would like to report the budget to the Centennial Committee that this is what we would need for 2011. CRAFT & BUSINESS EXPO: Karen Youngberg said the North Hennepin Business & Professional Women’s Organization is possibly interested in helping. Exhibitors would like more foot traffic. DUNKIN BIRTHDAY PARTY : Continue in 2009. FACE PAINTING: Continue in 2009. FAMILY FUN & GAMES: Continue in 2009. HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL: Drop. HONOR THE VETERANS: Phil Cohen said this will be continued and hopefully expanded. ICE CREAM SOCIAL: Karen Youngberg said Brookdale cannot commit. Phil Cohen said we may want to consider holding this at the Heritage Center in conjunction with an open house on Sunday. KID’S FISHING CONTEST: Continue in 2009. MAGIC SHOW : Good crowd. We should consider this event for 2009. 1 MUSIC/FIREWORKS: This will be continued. Sue LaCrosse will contact Dale Greenwald concerning the band. PARADE: Continue in 2009. PUBLICITY: No report. SENIOR GOLF TOURNAMENT: Continue in 2009. TRIVIA CONTEST: Kathleen Carmody reported she will do a lot of advertising next year. If we don’t break even after that, it may be canceled. OTHER EVENTS: We will have a couple of children’s characters come out. OLD BUSINESS: None. NEW BUSINESS: During the Centennial year celebration the Earle Brown Days committee discussed the following as possibilities:  Expand the ice cream social and hold at Heritage Center  Expand the “Honor Our Veterans” event  Increase budget for signature events - parade & fireworks  Add paid units to the parade, such as Unicycle group  Invite public safety vehicles and National Guard helicopter  Have a City float in the parade  Bigger attraction  Kid’s inflatable’s  Build on events already going on  Add more money for publicity These ideas along with a preliminary budget proposal will be presented to the Centennial Committee. EXT MEETING: Room 221 (upper level) at the N Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. in the COMMUNITY CENTER. ADJOURN: There was a motion by Phil Cohen, seconded by Mike Meyer to adjourn the meeting.
