HomeMy WebLinkAbout2009 02-17 EBDM Earle Brown Days Meeting Minutes February 17, 2009 PRESENT: Kathleen Carmody, Mike Meyer, Cathy Ballot, Phil Cohen, Karen Youngberg, Councilmember Tim Roche, Ben Trapskin, and Sue LaCrosse. Kathleen Carmody called the meeting to order at 3:59 p.m. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: There was a motion by Cathy Ballot, seconded by Phil Cohen to approve the minutes of the January 20, 2009 meeting. Motion carried. TREASURER’S REPORT : Cathy Ballot reported $3,230.97 in checking and $15,157.03 in a CD for a balance of $18,388.00. There was a motion by Mike Meyer, seconded by Karen Youngberg to approve the Treasurer’s Report. Motion carried. BUDGET/FINANCE: The budget worksheet was reviewed. The Trivia Contest was eliminated. Phil Cohen asked Sue LaCrosse to contact Medtronic Foundation to bring them up to date and that we don’t want to take their donation for granted. He would be willing to meet with them. Phil Cohen said we need to continue the Honor Our Veterans event. It doesn’t cost very much. Kathleen Carmody is going to contact Mary O’Connor to see if she can help with getting door prizes and help at the Family Fun & Games event. Councilmember Tim Roche said he would like to see some very large signs, about 4’ x 8’ put up around the City property. Ben Trapskin said the library could be involved with outreach staff. They might be able to get the Readmobile in the parade and have a table with give-a-ways either on Saturday or at Dunkin’s Birthday Party. Phil Cohen said we should get the business solicitation letters out soon and maybe update them a little. He asked Karen Youngberg to get someone from the business community involved. CRAFT & BUSINESS EXPO: Sue LaCrosse said the Joy Reinhart made a couple changes. We will now be cashing the checks right away. There is also a checkbox on the application form for exhibitors to donate a door prize. DUNKIN BIRTHDAY PARTY : Sue LaCrosse said we will be serving the cake with the meal and shortening the time by a half hour. FACE PAINTING: Sue LaCrosse said she hired two face painters for Dunkin’s party and two for the Saturday events. FAMILY FUN & GAMES: Kathleen Carmody said she is about half way done in getting prizes. Karen Youngberg said Shane Mason will take care of getting volunteers. Phil Cohen was wondering if we could get some displays such as a helicopter, fire truck or police vehicle during 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Sue LaCrosse will contact the fire chief and Karen Youngberg will check on a helicopter. HONOR THE VETERANS: Phil Cohen would like to see if the VFW would donate some large flags which we would display on the showmobile. He would like to order the five service flags. The main thing would be to see what size will fit and if they can be put on the showmobile. 1 ICE CREAM SOCIAL: Karen Youngberg said she left a message for the manager of Brookdale. There was a motion by Karen Youngberg, seconded by Phil Cohen to wait until the end of next week to hear from Brookdale. Motion carried. Sue LaCrosse said we could have an ice cream social/open house at the Heritage Center on Sunday, June 28 from 2-4:00 p.m. They would serve ice cream, cake and punch in the courtyard and have staff available for people to talk to. They do not have any money to pay for entertainment. KID’S FISHING CONTEST: Sue LaCrosse said if BrookPark Dental doesn’t sponsor this event, the police department will. MAGIC SHOW : The committee wants the same type of show. MUSIC/FIREWORKS: Sue LaCrosse has booked Midnight Breeze and contracted for an $8,000 fireworks show. PARADE: The Lion’s Club donation has been made. Mike Meyer reported east of Dupont will be torn up. Two bands have already turned in their forms. PUBLICITY: Signs cannot be put on the right of way. SENIOR GOLF TOURNAMENT: Yes. OTHER EVENTS: Sue LaCrosse was authorized by the committee to book three characters and the circus acrobat act. OLD BUSINESS: None. th NEW BUSINESS: Kathleen Carmody reported that Mike Meyer received the award at the 98 Birthday Celebration. EXT MEETING: Room 221 (upper level) at the N Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. in the COMMUNITY CENTER.
