HomeMy WebLinkAbout2009 01-20 EBDM Earle Brown Days Meeting Minutes January 20, 2009 PRESENT: Cathy Ballot, Phil Cohen, Karen Youngberg, Councilmember Tim Roche and Sue LaCrosse. Karen Youngberg called the meeting to order at 4:05 p.m. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: There was a motion by Cathy Ballot, seconded by Phil Cohen to approve the minutes of the September 16, 2008 meeting. Motion carried. TREASURER’S REPORT : Cathy Ballot reported $3,400.82 in checking and $15,119.82 in a CD for a balance of $18,520.64. There was a motion by Phil Cohen, seconded by Karen Youngberg to approve the Treasurer’s Report. Motion carried. BUDGET/FINANCE: Phil Cohen asked if we could have a budget draft for the next meeting. We had a slight shortfall last year. As we draft the budget, we should prioritize the events. Our signature events are the parade, Saturday in the park, fireworks. Everything else falls in between. Sue LaCrosse said we need to finalize our events by the March meeting. CRAFT & BUSINESS EXPO: Karen Youngberg said Joy Reinhart will serve as chair. They would like to have more signs, including directional signs. Sue LaCrosse said one year we had a street dance in front of city hall. People driving by could see it. Having the craft & business expo on top might be a possibility. The downside is all of the other activities are down in the park. Would people walk up to the expo. Karen Youngberg said the committee will meet to discuss ideas and report back. DUNKIN BIRTHDAY PARTY : Sue LaCrosse said this event will be held again. We are going to shorten it by a half hour. FACE PAINTING: Yes. FAMILY FUN & GAMES: Yes. HONOR THE VETERANS: Phil Cohen said this will be continued. ICE CREAM SOCIAL: Karen Youngberg said she will check with Brookdale. Sue LaCrosse will check on the status of the new hotel/EBHC open house. KID’S FISHING CONTEST: Yes. MAGIC SHOW : Yes. MUSIC/FIREWORKS: There was a motion by Phil Cohen, seconded by Cathy Ballot to book the fireworks for $8,000. Motion carried. PARADE: Sue LaCrosse said the band letters went out. 1 PANCAKE BREAKFAST: No. PUBLICITY: Phil Cohen said we need to figure out how to attract new residents. We should target where our publicity money is going. Karen Youngberg said communication is changing. Councilmember Tim Roche suggested putting up posters in the African stores, Culvers, Humboldt Square, apartment complexes and the Community Corner. He said he would help. The posters should emphasize FREE. SENIOR GOLF TOURNAMENT: Yes. TRIVIA CONTEST: No report. OTHER EVENTS: This item will be discussed at the next meeting. OLD BUSINESS: None. NEW BUSINESS: There was a motion by Phil Cohen, seconded by Cathy Ballot to approve payment to the BCBA for 2009 dues in the amount of $100.00. Motion carried. There was a motion by Phil Cohen, seconded by Karen Youngberg to approve payment to the City of Brooklyn Center for Mike Meyer & guest to attend the Birthday Celebration as he has been nominated for the community service award. Motion carried. EXT MEETING: Room 221 (upper level) at the N Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. in the COMMUNITY CENTER.
