Meeting Minutes
March17, 2009
PRESENT:
Kathleen Carmody, Mike Meyer, Cathy Ballot, Phil Cohen, Karen Youngberg,
Councilmember Tim Roche, and Sue LaCrosse.
Kathleen Carmody called the meeting to order at 4:00 p.m.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
There was a motion by Mike Meyer, seconded by Cathy Ballot to
approve the minutes of the February 17, 2009 meeting. Motion carried.
TREASURER’S REPORT
: Cathy Ballot reported $3,068.52 in checking and $15,195.61 in a CD for a
balance of $18,264.13. Sue LaCrosse gave Cathy Ballot a deposit of $3,110, $3,000 of which is the Lions
Club donation for the parade. There was a motion by Karen Youngberg, seconded by Mike Meyer to approve
the Treasurer’s Report. Motion carried.
CRAFT & BUSINESS EXPO:
Sue LaCrosse said we have three exhibitors so far. Karen Youngberg
met with the Women’s Club to ask for help and Rita Ascher has indicated she can.
DUNKIN BIRTHDAY PARTY
: Sue LaCrosse said the face painters are booked.
FACE PAINTING:
Sue LaCrosse said they are set. Councilmember Tim Roche said he knows a couple
face painters who might be willing to do this for free. Sue LaCrosse suggested he check with them for the
Ice Cream Social/Open House on Sunday at the Heritage Center because they don’t have money for
entertainment.
FAMILY FUN & GAMES:
Kathleen Carmody said the prizes are almost done. She will have more
time to solicit gift certificates. Mary O’Connor is not interested in going out to get door prizes but she will
help at the event on Saturday. Rotary has this event in their budget and will have volunteers. Sue LaCrosse
ordered the PA system. Karen Youngberg will donate the coins.
ICE CREAM SOCIAL:
Karen Youngberg said Brookdale will not be able to sponsor this event
this year. Sue LaCrosse said the Earle Brown Heritage Center will combine an Ice Cream Social with an
Open House. They will provide refreshments and tours. They do not have money to pay for entertainment.
Phil Cohen is checking on the Joe Brough band, however, who would pay for it?
KID’S FISHING CONTEST:
No report.
MAGIC SHOW
: The magic show is booked.
MUSIC/FIREWORKS:
Sue LaCrosse reported Metronic Foundation will not know for a couple
months whether they can support the fireworks. We are booked for an $8,000 show.
PARADE:
We have three bands and one paid unit. Mike Meyer will drop off a parade application
to Oak City Grill. Phil Cohen will contact Margaret Sandberg to see if she is interested in commentating at
the parade with Northwest Community Television.

PUBLICITY:
Sue LaCrosse said we might be able to get our own page on the City Website,
something like www.cityofbrooklyncenter.org/earlebrowndays. There would be a cost of approximately $25.
The committee wants to go ahead with this.
SENIOR GOLF TOURNAMENT:
No report
OTHER EVENTS:
It was asked if Dora would be able to speak any Spanish. Sue LaCrosse will
check on this.
HONOR THE VETERANS:
Mike Meyer said he figured out we could have 4' x 6' banners. Phil
Cohen and Mike Meyer will meet with the VFW and Legion to figure everything out. Sue LaCrosse will
have to check with the City garage staff to see if and how they can be put up.
BUDGET/FINANCE:
The budget worksheet was reviewed. Sue LaCrosse said we received $3,000
from the Lions Club. If we do not get any other donations, we would have a reserve of about $299 to carry
over to next year. The business donation letters are going out this week. Phil Cohen asked Councilmember
Tim Roche if he would find out the person at US Bank that we could contact for a donation.
OLD BUSINESS:
None.
NEW BUSINESS:
Councilmember Tim Roche asked if we could put some of the Craft & Business Expo
exhibitors along the road in back. Sue LaCrosse said they like shade because some do not have canopies and
some need electricity. She said she would not want to make any decisions on this without discussing them
with chair Joy Reinhart. The April agenda will include walking out to Central Park to look at locations for
the events.

N Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. in the
COMMUNITY CENTER.

There was a motion by Mike Meyer, seconded by Karen Youngberg to adjourn the meeting.
