CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION:
Keith Lester said he is meeting with the various organizations.
Part of the focus will be how they can enhance Earle Brown Days. For example the Honor the Veterans
program could include airplane fly overs. Karen Youngberg will check with Oak City on the car show.
Keith Lester said they are not looking to take over the events. Other things the Centennial committee
talked about include cultural dance, presentations, taste of BC, and art shows.
Joy Reinhart suggested 3 Options
1) Run Monday – Saturday
Music in the park – Mon-Wed & Friday (kids band on Friday.)
Parade Thursday
Dunkin’s Party & Music in Park – Friday
Saturday evening - bigger group

1
3)Run Thursday – Saturday – no change
Other ideas included: skip Monday completely and start on Tuesday.
Tuesday
– Rockin’ Hollywoods, senior event with senior coronation, treasure hunt with Historical
Society.
Wednesday
– car show, check with Luther Auto & Oak City, idol contest, BC’s Got Talent, Taste of
BC, cultural night (ethnic foods along with the cultural entertainment and style show).
Thursday
– pool party for kids in afternoon (pick kids up) coordinate transportation & parade in
evening.
Friday
– Senior golf tournament, teen night music & dance, young people’s group, Dunkin’s Party
Saturday
– Helicopter rides, Critters & Company, pony rides, History of EBD, corn or pie eating
contest, family fun & games, kids fishing contest, craft & business expo, magician, honor the vets,
airplanes, midnight breeze, and petting zoo. This could be Family Day.
Phil Cohen thinks EBD should only ask for what they need. He is also concerned about staff because
the committee is small. Joy said we can always scale back. We are asking another group to coordinate
the Treasure Hunt and asking a senior group to do the senior coronation and Oak City would do the car
show. We would host it and advertise it.
The following committee members will check on these events:
Karen Youngberg – young people’s group, Oak City
Cathy Ballot – petting zoo, pony rides
Sue LaCrosse – helicopter rides, critters, pony rides, Rockin’ Hollywoods, treasure hunt
Keith Lester – airplane flyer overs, idol or BC’s got talent, battle of the bands
Mike – parade, golf tournament
There was a motion by Phil Cohen, seconded by Karen Youngberg to meet on September 21 and skip
October. Motion carried.
