HomeMy WebLinkAbout2011 04-19 EBDM Earle Brown Days Meeting Minutes April 19, 2011 PRESENT: Karen Youngberg, Phil Cohen, Mynra Kragness, Mike Meyer, Cathy Ballot, Councilmember Dan Ryan and Sue LaCrosse. Karen Youngberg called the meeting to order at 4:30 p.m. APPROVAL OF MINUTES There was a motion by Mike Meyer, seconded by Myrna Kragness to approve the minutes of March 22, 2011. Motion carried. TREASURER’S REPORT Cathy Ballot reported the balance in our checking account is $17,752.13. There was a motion by Myrna Kragness, seconded by Mike Meyer to approve the Treasurer’s Report. Motion carried. BUDGET/FINANCE The committee reviewed the budget sheet. SIGNS The proposed sites will be submitted to Vickie Schleuning. Onsite Locations: th  Brooklyn Center High School - 6500 Humboldt Ave N on the corner of 65 & Humboldt.  Oak City Grill – 2590 Freeway Blvd – Karen Youngberg will check for approval.  Centerbrook Golf Course - 5500 North Lilac Dr. (Near entrance to Centerbrook).  Community Center - 6301 Shingle Creek Parkway. Business/Commercial Locations: th  Cub Foods - 57 & Brooklyn Blvd (on Cub Foods property) - so that people see it when they come into their lot – Mike Meyer will check for approval.  Brookdale Health - 5740 Brooklyn Blvd – Karen Youngberg will check for approval.  Luther Brookdale Chevrolet - 6701 Brooklyn Blvd – Phil Cohen will check for approval.  North Memorial Clinic Brooklyn Center Physicians - 5415 Brooklyn Blvd – Phil Cohen will check for approval.  West Fire Station - 6250 Brooklyn Boulevard – Sue LaCrosse will check for approval. EVENTS Characters – All set. Craft & Business Expo – Phil Cohen asked how many Rotarians would be needed for setup. Cathy Ballot said about 3-4. The exact time they should arrive will be confirmed by Joy Reinhart. Dunkin The Dolphin Birthday Party – Sue LaCrosse said we received a donation from a Dental Center as a partial sponsorship of this event. 1 Face Painting – No report. Family Fun & Games – Cathy Ballot said Shane Mason will order prizes for us. Sue LaCrosse will hire a staff person to fill the water balloons. Rotary will schedule setup from Noon to 2:00 p.m. Farm Animals/Petting Zoo – Cathy Ballot will need to send a deposit to them. Honor Our Veterans – Myrna Kragness reported the scouts from Cross of Glory and St. Al’s will be there. She needs to confirm the flyovers with Jeff Delzer. Sue LaCrosse received an email about a bagpipes group. Myrna Kragness will contact them to find out if there is a charge and how long they play. Kid’s Craft Area – Sue LaCrosse has not ordered the crafts yet. Kid’s Fishing Contest – Cathy Ballot said the police will be there. Phil Cohen met one of the dentists that will be there to help. Sue LaCrosse said we received their $250 donation and she has purchased the prizes. Magic Show – Sue LaCrosse will contact the magician to confirm. Music/Fireworks – All set. We are committed to a $13,000 show, $8,000 of that is a carryover from last year. Parade – Mike Meyer reported that Cub Foods will donate 10 shopping carts for picking up food, but he needs to find people to walk the parade with the carts. He met with Sergeant Peggy Labatt. Band units will include Maple Grove, Waconia, Champlin Park, Park Center, Richfield, St. Peter and the Brooklyn Center Drumline. There will also be a band from Schmitt music. Units that were turned down included the Twin Cities Unicycle, Tom’s Mechanical, and Krackerjack Drumline. These units cost too much money. Luther Auto will supply cars. Keith Lester will ride in one of the cars as the chair of the Centennial. Joy Reinhart will ride in one of the cars as the Earle Brown Days chair and Dr. Orn will ride in one as the Grand Marshal. Dunkin the Dolphin will also ride in one of the cars. Publicity – The committee discussed options for publicity. There was a motion by Phil Cohen, seconded by Myrna Kragness to spend $924.00 for television ads that will appear on Channel 12. They would air from 5-12:00 p.m. during the news and sports jam. Motion carried. We will also do a number of free things, like sending out public service announcements, flyers to children at schools, and posters to businesses. Rockinˊ Hollywoods – All set. Senior Golf Tournament – Mike Meyer said the Lions Club will help support this event again. OLD BUSINESS Phil Cohen asked who we are going to have as our nonprofit group this year. Sue LaCrosse suggested the Brooklyn Historical Society. There was a motion by Mike Meyer, seconded by Myrna Kragness to extend an invitation to the Historical Society to have a gratis table at Earle Brown Days Craft & Business Expo in which they could display materials and sell their books. Motion carried. NEW BUSINESS 2 There was a motion by Phil Cohen, seconded by Mike Meyer to approve payment of $350.00 to Walton’s Hollow as a deposit for the Petting Zoo. Motion carried.
