BROOKLYN CENTER YEAR 2000 CELEBRATION
TUESDAY, APRIL 11, 2000 , 7 PM

MEETING MINUTES
The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Phil Cohen.
ATTENDANCE:
Henry Dorff, Earle Brown Days; Ed Nelson, Councilmember; Baylon F.
Loosbrock, Rotary; Myrna Kragness, Mayor; Jim Glasoe, City of Brooklyn Center; Sue Low,
Brooklyn Community Chamber; Kay Lasman, Councilmember; Lee Skavanger, Osseo Community
Education; Sue LaCrosse, Earle Brown Days; Phil Cohen, Chairman.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF MARCH 14, 2000
There was a motion by Kay Lasman, seconded by Lee Skavanger to approve the minutes of March
14, 2000. Motion carried.
TREASURERS REPORT
Phil Cohen reported the unofficial financial report is $1,366.95.
Phil Cohen gave out certificates of appreciation. Sue LaCrosse said that Chippewa made a mistake.
We ordered 200 and they ran 2,100. We get to keep the extras.
There was a motion by Kay Lasman, seconded by Lee Skavanger to approve payment of $470.73 to
Chippewa Graphics for the certificates. Motion carried.
MILLENNIUM APPLICATION STATUS
Phil Cohen said we have been accepted as an official Millennium community. We now have the
authority to use the logo. Phil gave each board member a copy of the certificate from the White
House Millennium Council.
There is a web site that only official communities can login.
MILLENNIUM BOOK
Lee Skavanger of Osseo Community Education will underwrite the cost of the books within reason.
The goal is to get them into the churches in the summer and schools in September. The books will go
into the time capsule.
HERITAGE OPEN HOUSE
The open house will be held from 2-4:30 p.m. on July 9. Reuben Ristrom will provide music and
there will be refreshments, face painting, and balloons. Tours will be given by staff and historical
society members. The historical society will take book reservations. The Year 2000 committee will

be able to set up a display to sell memorabilia and hand out promotional materials.
YEAR 2000 CELEBRATION CALENDAR
Phil Cohen handed out an updated calendar.
Mayor Kragness suggested adding Earth Day on April 22 and Arbor Day on April 30 to the calendar.
She said Arbor month is May. This year the celebration will be at Garden City School.
PUBLICITY
Mayor Kragness asked about the status of a booth at Brookdale. Phil said he would like to tie it in
with Earle Brown Days.
There was a discussion about making pins with the millennium logo. Lee Skavanger suggested
Viking Trophy.
Sue Low knows some people at Vaughn Flag Co. She will get some prices for flags.
Phil Cohen has the large certificate which he would like to have framed and have a member of the
council go with to present.
Sue LaCrosse asked about publicizing the 4th of July lighting contest. She said that if we can get the
information in the next couple of weeks, we could still get a flyer out to the schools. Phil Cohen said
he has contacted Richie Miller at Malmborgs to see if they would be interested in selling. The
company is going to send them a catalog.
It was suggested the memorabilia committee check about purchasing t-shirts, signs, pins and caps.
Sue LaCrosse asked if we should be sending Lauri Winters a press release about being a millennium
community. Phil Cohen said he will write something up.
