HomeMy WebLinkAbout2000 01-11 Y2000M BROOKLYN CENTER YEAR 2000 CELEBRATION TUESDAY, JANUARY 11, 2000 , 7 PM BROOKLYN CENTER CITY HALL - CONFERENCE ROOM B MEETING MINUTES The meeting was called to order at 7:09 p.m. by Phil Cohen. In attendance: Phil Cohen, Chairman; Tony Kuefler, Earle Brown Days; Sean Rahn; Rev. Bruce Hobbs, Church/Prayer Breakfast; Jim Glasoe, City of Brooklyn Center; Robert Becker, Brooklyn  Center Lions Club; Sally Thompson; Brookdale; Dorothy Jacobson, Brooklyn Center Womens Club; Baylon F. Loosbrock, Rotary; Sue LaCrosse, Earle Brown Days. There was a motion by Robert Becker, seconded by Rev. Bruce Hobbs to approve the minutes of the board of directors of December 7, 1999. Motion carried. There was a motion by Rev. Bruce Hobbs, seconded by Tony Kuefler to approve the minutes of the final meeting of the steering committee of December 7, 1999. Motion carried. REPORT OF THE NOMINATING COMMITTEE: Tony Kuefler reported the nominating committee recommends and places into nomination the following: Phil Cohen for President, Sean Rahn for Vice President, Joelien Zastrow for Treasurer, and Sue LaCrosse for secretary. There was a motion by Tony Kuefler, seconded by Robert Becker to approve the candidates for office of the Year 2000 Celebration Committee. Motion carried.  TREASURERS REPORT: No report. MILLENNIUM APPLICATION STATUS: Phil Cohen reported the application process was a little more involved than originally thought. Two copies are required for the application. About 10 copies will be made. WINTER FAMILY FUN DAY EVENT: Sue LaCrosse passed around flyers about the Winter Family Fun Day. It will be held Saturday, January 22. Phil Cohen said the Lions Club will sponsor the event. 89TH BIRTHDAY PARTY EVENT: Phil Cohen reported the dinner will cost $12.50 per  person. The caterer is Wells and the menu is roast beef, turkey, Caesar salad, French style green beans, baked potato, rolls, butter, coffee, milk, water. The entertainment will be provided by the former BCHS choir director. Phil Cohen said we need to send a $100 deposit each to the caterer and Joseph Brough. There was a motion by Tony Kuefler, seconded by Rev. Bruce Hobbs to approve payment of a $100 deposit to each. Motion carried. Dorothy Jacobson suggested the Robbinsdale Cooper Chamber Singers. She will call Phil with their phone number. Phil Cohen said Brooklyn Center and Park Center High Schools may send some choir members. Margaret Sandberg will coordinate the decorations. Sally Thompson said Brookdale will donate Helium. There was a motion by Tony Kuefler, seconded by Baylon Loosbrock to approve the cost of decorations up to $100. PAYMENT OF BILLS: Sue LaCrosse explained the system of paying bills that Earle Brown Days uses. It involves establishing a budget first. Then an invoice or receipt must accompany a request for payment form. The board of directors approves it and a check is written by the treasurer and requires two signatures. For the Year 2000 committee, the two signatures will be Phil Cohen and Joelien Zastrow. There was a motion by Robert Becker, seconded by Sean Rahn to adopt this bill pay procedure. Motion carried. CALENDAR OF MEETINGS: The meetings will be held the second Tuesday of the month. Sue LaCrosse said she would not be able to attend the June, July, and August meetings because of Entertainment In The Park. The meeting schedule is as follows: January 11 February 8 March 14 April 11 May 9 June 13 July 11 August 8 September 12 October 10 November 14 December 12 There was a motion by Robert Becker, seconded by Rev. Bruce Hobbs to adopt the calendar. Motion carried. LOGO: Tony Kuefler redesigned the 75th Anniversary Logo to be used as the current logo. Phil Cohen distributed caps with the 75th Anniversary Logo on them and showed other cap designs. Other merchandise suggestions included lawn signs, mugs, key chains, and pens. It was decided that caps would be ordered for sale and another merchandise item would be ordered for the 89th Birthday Party. Phil Cohen and Sean Rahn will decide what to order. There was a motion by Rev. Bruce Hobbs, seconded by Baylon Loosbrock to approve Phil and Sean to order merchandise for resale and as a Birthday Party give-a-way not to exceed $500. Motion carried. INFORMATION BOOTH: Phil Cohen said Rev. Hobbs called him to suggest setting up an information booth at Brookdale to promote Year 2000 events. Phil said it would be staffed by a different organization throughout the year. He said Sharon Paulson said it would be no problem. Phil has a meeting with Sharon to discuss the details. FINANCE: Phil Cohen said there is a bill for the attorney who set up the non profit status for Year 2000 committee. It is around $150 and the invoice has already been sent to the treasurer. He asked for committee approval to pay it. There was a motion by Tony Kuefler, seconded by Dorothy Jacobson to pay the attorney bill. Motion carried. Phil Cohen said the following donations have bee received so far: North Metro Tourism $ 500 Fire Department 1000 Lions Club 2000 + $500 for Winter Family Fun Day  Womens Club 200  Baylon Loosbrock said the Rotary would possibly put in next years budget. OTHER BUSINESS: Phil Cohen will continue to solicit for the Year 2000 Celebration through April. Solicitations will be cut off at that time because of Earle Brown Days solicitations. Phil Cohen said there was a question about letting people into the dance after the fireworks even though they did not register for the dinner. He said there is a maximum number of people allowed in the room due to the fire code. Next meeting: Tuesday, February 8, 7 p.m. Conference Room B.
