BROOKLYN CENTER YEAR 2000 CELEBRATION
TUESDAY, MAY 9, 2000 , 7 PM

MEETING MINUTES
The meeting was called to order at 7:02 p.m. by Phil Cohen.
ATTENDANCE:
Henry Dorff, Earle Brown Days; Baylon F. Loosbrock, Rotary; Sue Low,
Brooklyn Community Chamber; Kay Lasman, Councilmember; Joelien Zastrow, Treasurer; Pastor
Bruce Hobbs, Church/Prayer Breakfast; Bob Becker, BC Lions; Tony Kuefler, Earle Brown Days;
Sean Rahn, Vice Chairman; Sue LaCrosse, Earle Brown Days; Phil Cohen, Chairman.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF MARCH 14, 2000
There was a motion by Bob Becker, seconded by Kay Lasman to approve the minutes of April 11,
2000. Motion carried.
TREASURERS REPORT
Joelien Zastrow reported a balance of $3,041.26 in checking. There was a motion by Tony Kuefler,
seconded by Henry Dorff to approve the treasurers report.
EVENTS UPDATE
Phil Cohen reported that the Earle Brown Days committee authorized the Year 2000 committee to
sell souvenir items at events. They can also promote Year 2000 activities.
Tony Kuefler will coordinate the opening of the time capsule with Judith. The Heritage Center Open
House will be packaged up by the June meeting according to Phil Cohen. Tony Kuefler and Phil
Cohen will arrange a meeting with Lauri Winters to get something in the Post.
Phil Cohen would like a nice handout for the Open House. He would like to make it a historical
document and promote upcoming events.
Phil Cohen asked people to start thinking of what they would like to see put in the new time capsule.
MEMORABILIA/SOUVENIRS
Sean Rahn handed out a sheet with prices for various memorabilia including shirts, caps, pens, coffee
mugs, golf balls, and key chains. There would be a set up charge for $35. There was a motion by
Tony Kuefler, seconded by Pastor Bruce Hobbs to buy 50 Polo shirts for a cost up to $850.00.
Motion carried.
There was a motion by Tony Kuefler, seconded by Henry Dorff to sample 50 cotton t-shirts with a
cost not to exceed $300.00. Motion carried.
There was a motion by Pastor Bruce Hobbs, seconded by Baylon Loosbrock to buy 50 caps and to
spend up to $400.00. Motion carried.
Phil Cohen said the pens could be a possible give-a-way. There was a motion by Kay Lasman,
seconded by Joelien Zastrow to purchase 300 tri-stick pens for up to $186.00. Motion carried.

There was a motion by Bob Becker, seconded by Joelien Zastrow to purchase a two color coffee mug
for up to $225.00. Motion carried.
There was a motion by Pastor Bruce Hobbs, seconded by Baylon Loosbrock to purchase 150 key
chains at $1.10 each plus $35 set up charge not to exceed $200.00. Motion carried.
Phil Cohen handed out a proposal for lapel pins from Precision Arts, Inc. They would look like the
one from Rochester. There was a motion by Tony Kuefler, seconded by Bob Becker to purchase 100
pins at a cost not to exceed $400.00. Motion carried.
MILLENNIUM BOOK UPDATE
Phil Cohen said he hasnt had a chance to meet with Lee Skavanger. Something should be ready at
the June meeting.
PUBLICITY
Tony Kuefler and Sue LaCrosse will try to meet with Judith for the Heritage Center Open House
publicity. Phil Cohen said the other publicity items are also being put together and will be ready for
use prior to the Earle Brown Days events. His publicity package will be presented at the June
meeting.
Phil Cohen would like to have certificates made for all those that helped or contributed to the
Birthday Party event. He will then buy frames for them.
REVISION TO YEAR 2000 CELEBRATION CALENDAR:
Phil Cohen said he talked to Doug Darnell and the official opening of the Family Resource Center is
estimated at sometime mid-October.
Lighting contest information is still not finalized.
NEXT MEETING
Tuesday, June 13. Sue LaCrosse said she will not be at the next three meetings because of
Entertainment In The Park. Tony Kuefler said he would take minutes at the June 13 meeting.
ADJOURNMENT
There was a motion by Bob Becker, seconded by Henry Dorff to adjourn the meeting. Motion
carried. The meeting was adjourned.
