HomeMy WebLinkAbout2000 10-10 Y2000M BROOKLYN CENTER YEAR 2000 CELEBRATION TUESDAY, OCTOBER 10, 2000 , 7 PM BROOKLYN CENTER CITY HALL - CONFERENCE ROOM B MEETING MINUTES The meeting was called to order at 7:07 p.m. by Phil Cohen. ATTENDANCE: Baylon F. Loosbrock, Rotary; Tony Kuefler, Time Capsule; Sue Low, Brooklyn Community Chamber/Allegra; Kay Lasman, Councilmember; Pastor Bruce Hobbs, Church/Prayer Breakfast; Myrna Kragness, Mayor; Joelien Zastrow, Treasurer; Sean Rahn, Vice Chairman; Sue LaCrosse, Earle Brown Days; Phil Cohen, Chairman. RESOLUTION Phil Cohen handed out a resolution from the Year 2000 committee to the Lions Club. The Lions Club will be honored by the Brooklyn Center Rotary on October 17. Tony Kuefler will clean it up. Phil Cohen said he would like it to have the board members listed on it. Sean Rahn will present it. There was a motion by Rev. Hobbs, seconded by Baylon Loosbrock to approve the Resolution Of Appreciation to the Brooklyn Center Lions Club. Motion carried. COMMUNITY THANKSGIVING CELEBRATION Rev. Hobbs reported that there are 6-8 churches involved. The event will be held at Park Center High School on Sunday, November 19 at 7 p.m. They will use the auditorium, lobby and cafeteria. He asked about snacks. Phil Cohen said the committee could pay for it but they would need someone to distribute it. Rev. Hobbs will check with Lee Skavanger as to what the health department regulations are. He said he would be very happy if they got 300 people.  TREASURERS REPORT Phil Cohen said Joelien Zastrow has resigned as treasurer from Earle Brown Days but will continue as Year 2000 treasurer. The checkbook balance is $2,446.91 as of 9/29/00. There are no outstanding bills. EVENTS UPDATE Halloween Party - Sue LaCrosse said this event will be held on Saturday, October 28 from 1-3 p.m. Phil Cohen would like to have a table to display memorabilia at the Halloween Party. Family Resource Center Open House - Sue LaCrosse said it will be sometime the middle of November. Historical Book - Mayor Kragness said the book is delayed. It may be available at the Birthday Party. Millennium Book Update - Lee Skavanger and Doug Darnell have worked out all of the details and it is ready to go. Holly Sunday - Sue LaCrosse said this event is scheduled for Sunday, December 3. Family Fun Day - Phil Cohen said he would prefer to have this on a different date than the Birthday 1 Party because some of the same people will be involved. They may be too tired. Sue LaCrosse said she will look at room availability. Phil Cohen will talk to Gene Hageman about the Lions Club sponsoring again. They would do the sleigh rides and the snow sculptures. Birthday Party - Phil Cohen said this event is scheduled for Saturday, February 10, 2001. There was a motion by Tony Kuefler, seconded by Mayor Kragness to approve the 90th Birthday Party for February 10, 2001. Motion carried. The program will include loading the new time capsule. Kuefler suggested inviting organizations to come and put stuff in the capsule. Phil Cohen will talk to the city manager about the time capsule. Kay Lasman will be in charge of food. Phil Cohen said he talked to  Dorothy Jacobson of the Womens Club and they will make a donation again. Sue LaCrosse will order the fireworks. It was decided they will go off at 8:00 p.m. Medallion Hunt - Phil Cohen said he will talk to Diane Spector about doing this event. Sue LaCrosse suggested doing the medallion hunt on the same day as the Family Fun Day. It could be hidden in Central Park and the person could get the prize right away. MEMORABILIA/SOUVENIR UPDATE Phil Cohen said he would like to sell memorabilia at the various events. PUBLICITY No report NEW BUSINESS Tony Kuefler said we should put on the next agenda the information needed to alert organizations about the time capsule.
