HomeMy WebLinkAbout2000 11-14 Y2000M BROOKLYN CENTER YEAR 2000 CELEBRATION TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 14, 2000, 7 PM BROOKLYN CENTER CITY HALL - CONFERENCE ROOM B MEETING MINUTES The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m. by Phil Cohen. ATTENDANCE: Baylon F. Loosbrock, Rotary; Pastor Timothy Johnson, Community Thanksgiving Celebration; Kay Lasman, Councilmember; Myrna Kragness, Mayor; Ed Nelson, Councilmember; Sean Rahn, Vice Chairman; Sue LaCrosse, Earle Brown Days; Phil Cohen, Chairman. FINANCIAL REPORT Phil Cohen reported the checkbook balance as of October 31, 2000 is $2,441.61. There was a motion by Councilmember Lasman, seconded by Mayor Kragness to approve the financial report. Motion carried. Phil Cohen said he has not ordered the 2000-01 millennium pins yet. He is waiting to see where we are financially. EVENTS UPDATE Community Thanksgiving Celebration -Pastor Timothy Johnson said the service would consist of three 7-10 minute speakers. It will be held from 7-8 p.m. on Sunday, November 19 at Park Center. They have six churches involved. He has no idea how many people will attend. Phil Cohen said the Year 2000 committee will pay for the refreshments but they will have to find people to serve them. Some of the Year 2000 committee members said they would help serve. Refreshments will consist of cider, cookies and coffee. Many of the churches have put the information in their bulletins. Phil Cohen asked if there would be a program. Pastor Timothy Johnson said yes. Phil Cohen suggested using the millennium logo on the program. Family Resource Center Open House - Sue LaCrosse said the open house would be Wednesday, November 15 from 5-7 p.m. The name of the building is Community Corner with the Family Resource Center being a part of it. Historical Book – No Report Holly Sunday - Sue LaCrosse said this event is scheduled for Sunday, December 3 from 2-5 p.m. It consists of entertainment, Santa Claus and the lighting of the Holiday Tree. Family Fun Day - Phil Cohen said the Winter Family Fun Day is Saturday, February 3; time to be determined. There will be sleigh rides, snow sculptures and refreshments. Birthday Party - Phil Cohen said this event is scheduled for Saturday, February 10, 2001. Councilmember Kay Lasman reported dinner costs of $12-13 with or without China. Some of the caterers she is looking at are the Atrium, Nelson, and Filk. She has booked a folk group from Park Center. She said there are also two students that have a multi-cultural program that consists of reading poems. She said it is hard to explain but they are really good. Phil Cohen said Dorothy Jacobson knows of a group from Cooper. He will check that out. The price of tickets was discussed. There was a motion by Councilmember Kay Lasman, seconded by Mayor Myrna Kragness to approve the ticket price at $25/person. Motion carried. 1 Time Capsule – Phil Cohen said the new time capsule will be installed somewhere in City Hall. It will not be buried. He has to talk to the city manager. Councilmember Ed Nelson asked if some of the memorabilia would be put in the time capsule. Phil Cohen said yes. Millennium Book Update – Phil Cohen reported they have met with the principals during the principal’s luncheon. He said both him and Lee Skavanger spoke. It seemed to be well received. District 279, Osseo Community Education is footing the bill for the millennium book. Medallion Hunt - Phil Cohen said Diane Spector would coordinate the event. It might be run during the February events. Joyce from her department will help. NEXT MEETING Tuesday, December 12, 7 p.m. Conference Room B.
