HomeMy WebLinkAbout2001 02-06 SECM BROOKLYN CENTER YEAR 2000 CELEBRATION TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 6, 2001, 7 PM BROOKLYN CENTER CITY HALL - CONFERENCE ROOM B MEETING MINUTES Phil Cohen called the meeting to order at 7:01 p.m. ATTENDANCE: Baylon F. Loosbrock, Rotary; Kay Lasman, Councilmember; Tony Kuefler, Time Capsule; Ed Nelson, Councilmember; Sean Rahn, Vice-Chairman; Sue LaCrosse, Earle Brown Days; Phil Cohen, Chairman. FINANCIAL REPORT Phil Cohen reported the checkbook balance as of $4,899.30 less a $14.49 payment as of February 6. EVENTS UPDATE Winter Family Fun Day – Phil Cohen said the Winter Family Fun Day went excellent. th 90 Birthday Party – Councilmember Lasman said she has made a reservation with the caterer for 100 people. The caterer will do 10% over but for people who take more to eat. No additional people can be added. If there is anyone requesting tickets to the dinner, they should be referred to Phil Cohen. He will determine what he has left. Right now he has 4 spots, North Memorial 8, and Brookdale 4. Councilmember Lasman said the caterer would stop in to check the kitchen and ovens. She will have the glasses and dinnerware delivered Friday morning and they will be packed in boxes. Margaret Sandberg will begin decorating at 11 a.m. on Saturday. The helium and balloons will be delivered on Friday. The women’s club will need a cash box. Phil Cohen has collected some door prizes including a bag of stuff from North Memorial, five $10 gift certificates from Brookdale and a $50 savings bond from Marquette Bank. Sue LaCrosse said there are 71 t-shirts, polo shirts, mugs and caps left. Sean Rahn said he had some merchandise too. She wanted to know if we could give one item out to each participant as they check in. The committee thought this was a good idea. Phil Cohen would like to have some notepads printed up with the Millennium information on it. There was a motion by Tony Kuefler, seconded by Baylon Loosbrock to approve the printing of the notepads to be given out at the birthday party. Motion carried. The committee worked on revising the program. Sue LaCrosse will check to make sure the American Flag and the City Flag are in the room. The piano is already tuned. Phil Cohen will make sure we have a check for the caterer and the band. Committee Continuing – Phil Cohen asked if the committee should continue beyond the birthday party. Sean Rahn said he would like to see the committee go beyond sponsoring a few events. Phil Cohen said he sees it being an extension of the old Discover The Center committee. He asked if he should prepare a survey to be given out at the dinner. Kay Lasman said it would have to be a short survey. Phil Cohen said we would have to have City support in order for it to be successful. He will 1 talk to Mike. He said that if the committee ends after this year, any surplus dollars would go to the city. Time Capsule – Tony Kuefler will coordinate that evening. History Book – Tony Kuefler said a sample will be available. NEXT MEETING Tuesday, March 6, 7 p.m. Conference Room B.
