FINANCIAL REPORT Phil Cohen reported the unofficial balance of the checkbook is $2,508.91. He said the extra money belongs to the City. EVENTS UPDATE Time Capsule – Tony Kuefler reported that he got lots of stuff. He bought a plastic box for storage. It is just about full. Each organization has a separate envelope. There are about 30 different donor items. He said he is making a detailed list of items. Baylon Loosbrock donated a video he took of the birthday party. Tony Kuefler said there would be approximately two to three feet allowed in the entryway of the community center. He said the City Manager said not to expect it until the end of the year. FUTURE OF THE COMMITTEE Lee Skavanger asked what happened to the Discover The Center committee. Phil Cohen and Mayor Kragness said it is defunct. Phil Cohen had previously suggested to Sean Rahn they do something like the Chamber did years ago. They had a presidents’ roundtable discussion with all of the organizations in Brooklyn Center. This type of discussion allows for an exchange of information so that people are not tripping over each other. He said he talked to Bob Becker and Lorraine Shinnick and they would like to keep the events going. Phil Cohen said the questions we need to ask are “Do the people want to continue?” “Does the City want to continue?” He said is there a reason for the committee to be restructured. The evaluation of the birthday party is that it was better than last year. What do we do to keep the community out? The Prayer Breakfast gets people out. Phil Cohen said, “Does this keep the community together?” He thinks yes. “Is it worth the investment?” Lee Skavanger said he sees a lot of strong leadership. He said, “How do you get the young people to take pride in the community and get involved in leadership roles.” He suggested an all day strategic planning session. Tony Kuefler said he agrees with the roundtable discussions to create some awareness. He would like to keep something going. 1 Phil Cohen said there are only so many dollars. During his financial fund raising, he tried to stay away from Earle Brown Days fund raising dates. He said he knows it hurt Earle Brown Days. He added that an all day planning session would not fly. Tony Kuefler said it is worth pursuing. Phil Cohen will talk to the City Manager. NEXT MEETING At this time, there is no future meeting scheduled. ADJOURNMENT The meeting was adjourned at 7:50 p.m. Respectfully Submitted, Sue LaCrosse Program Supervisor 2
