HomeMy WebLinkAbout2002 02-07 SECM BROOKLYN CENTER SPECIAL EVENTS COMMITTEE THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 7, 4 PM BROOKLYN CENTER CITY HALL MEETING MINUTES Phil Cohen called the Brooklyn Center Special Events Committee meeting to order at 4:05 p.m. ATTENDANCE Baylon F. Loosbrock, Rotary; Tony Kuefler, Time Capsule; Kay Lasman, Councilmember; Ed Nelson, Councilmember; Pastor Bruce Hobbs, Thanksgiving Service; Dorothy Jacobson, Women’s Club; Doug Darnell, Brooklyn Center ISD 286 Community Education; Dan Vang, Hmong Community; Sue LaCrosse, Earle Brown Days; Phil Cohen, Chairman. MEETING MINUTES OF JANUARY 24 & 31 There was a motion by Doug Darnell, seconded by Pastor Bruce Hobbs to approve the minutes of January 24 and 31. Motion carried. FINANCIAL REPORT Phil Cohen reported a balance of $2,275.38. Donations have been made by BC Tax Payers Association, BC Prayer Breakfast, BC Lions Club, BC Rotary, North Memorial, and Carson & Clelland, which brings the cash balance to $3,225.38. Additional contributions are expected from the BC Chamber and BC Women’s Club. Phil Cohen asked the board to approve the number of awards from 15 to 16 in case there is a last minute recommendation. This would increase the budget for awards from $450 to $480. Phil Cohen estimated the checkbook balance would be $528 after the party. There was a motion by Tony Kuefler, seconded by Councilmember Ed Nelson to approve the amended budget. RECOGNITION RECIPIENTS There is a correction to the list of recognition recipients. Under Brooklyn Center Hmong community it should be Pastor John Yang. However, when Phil Cohen reviewed the list he had given to Viking Trophy, it was correct. PROGRAM: Phil Cohen explained how the awards would be distributed. Sue Low will read the information about each recipient. The sponsor will come up and hand the award to the recipient. The recipient will sit down until all of the awards have been given out. Phil Cohen asked if we should give an award to the City of Brooklyn Center to be given to the mayor and city manager. There was a motion by Pastor Bruce Hobbs, seconded by Tony Kuefler to approve the expenditure of one more award to present to the City of Brooklyn Center. Motion carried. Pastor Bruce Hobbs will bring flags. NEXT MEETING Thursday, February 28, 4:00 p.m. Brooklyn Center City Hall, Conference Room on lower level.
