BROOKLYN CENTER SPECIAL EVENTS COMMITTEE

MEETING MINUTES
Phil Cohen called the Brooklyn Center Special Events Committee meeting to order at 4:06 p.m.
ATTENDANCE
Baylon F. Loosbrock, Rotary; Tony Kuefler, Time Capsule; Kay Lasman, Councilmember; Ed Nelson,
Councilmember; Pastor Bruce Hobbs, Thanksgiving Service; Sue Low, Brooklyn Community Chamber; Sue
LaCrosse, Earle Brown Days; Phil Cohen, Chairman.
FINANCIAL REPORT
Phil Cohen reported a balance of $2,480.38.
Bills to pay: Joseph Brough Band Deposit $150
Henningson/Snoxell Filing Fees 55
Total $205
There was a motion by Kay Lasman, seconded by Baylon Loosbrock to approve payment of bills. Motion
carried.
Phil Cohen said both the Rotary and Taxpayers Association have approved $200 each to contribute.
RECOGNITION RECIPIENTS:
Phil Cohen reported to date the Brooklyn Center Rotary, Earle Brown Days Committee and Brooklyn
Center Taxpayers Association have made their selections for the recognition award. Baylon Loosbrock said
AARP would recognize someone. Phil Cohen asked if the Special Events Committee had an idea for a
person or group to recognize. It was suggested we recognize Henningson & Snoxell. There was a motion
by Tony Kuefler, seconded by Kay Lasman to recognize the law firm of Henningson & Snoxell. Motion
carried.
RECOGNITION AWARD:
Phil Cohen had Viking Trophies assemble a sample trophy to reflect the theme of a “Civic award and
Honoring America.” The cost of this trophy is $20, plus tax and .08¢ a letter. If a second plate is used,
there is an additional charge of $2.50. The committee thought the award looked sharp. There was a motion
by Tony Kuefler, seconded by Ed Nelson to approve the purchase of the award trophies. Motion carried.
TIME CAPSULE:
Tony Kuefler reported that the letters to the organizations went out along with an invitation and he has not
heard anything back yet. Sue LaCrosse said someone from AARP plans to write up something. He will
send the information to her.
BIRTHDAY PARTY CELEBRATION:
Location
– Phil Cohen said that Margaret has been over to the Heritage Center to look over the room. Phil
Cohen is giving her a bunch of decorations to use. Kay Lasman said that only special tape can be used.
Banquet Report
– Kay Lasman said the menu includes Stuffed Chicken Breast, Baby Greens Salad and the
caterer will provide the cake.
Entertainment
– Kay Lasman said that Park Center will provide entertainment and it will last
approximately 15-30 minutes. Phil Cohen said that Dr. Orn heard some really great bell ringers and Phil will
find out if they are available and the cost.
Promotion
– Sue LaCrosse said that invitations went out to all of the people that were provided from the
labels of Lions, Rotary, Chamber, Taxpayers, Historical Society, and city department heads and commission
thth
members. Invitations were also sent to everyone who attended the 89 or 90 Birthday Party Celebration.
She said Tony Kuefler might be contacted by Cable 12 News to do a short interview. Laurie Winters did a
story in last week’s issue of the Brooklyn Center Sun Post. Sue LaCrosse asked everyone for input on the
program. Changes will be made and another draft will be available at the next meeting.
Decorations
– Phil Cohen said Sally’s in New Hope has assorted patriotic lapel pins for $4.20/dozen. He
suggested this as a handout item at the Birthday Party. There was a motion by Pastor Hobbs, seconded by
Kay Lasman to authorize the purchase of 12 dozen label pins. Motion carried.

Thursday, January 24, 4:00 p.m. Brooklyn Center City Hall, Conference Room on lower level.
ADJOURNMENT
The meeting was adjourned at 4:45 p.m.
