HomeMy WebLinkAbout2002 10-10 SECM BROOKLYN CENTER SPECIAL EVENTS COMMITTEE THURSDAY, OCTOBER 10, 2002, 4 PM BROOKLYN CENTER COMMUNITY CENTER MEETING MINUTES Phil Cohen called the Brooklyn Center Special Events Committee meeting to order at 4:02 p.m. ATTENDANCE Tony Kuefler; Kay Lasman, Councilmember; Ed Nelson, Councilmember; Dorothy Jacobson, Women’s Club; Doris Ranczka, Women’s Club; Baylon Loosbrock, Rotary; Pastor Bruce Hobbs, Prayer Breakfast; Sue LaCrosse, Earle Brown Days; Phil Cohen, Chairman. FINANCIAL REPORT Phil Cohen reported a checkbook balance of $1,237.00. He said the tentative budget reflects some of the same expenses as last year. Estimated expenses: Police $150.00 School programs honorarium 100.00 City of Brooklyn Center – postage 150.00 Strolling musicians 300.00 Dale Greenwald Band 500.00 Viking Trophy 525.00 Decorations 200.00 City of Brooklyn Center – dinners 3,600.00 Contingency 300.00 Total 5,925.00 Estimated income: Checkbook balance $1,237.00 Organizational Support: Rotary 200.00 Lions 200.00 Prayer Breakfast 200.00 Taxpayers 200.00 Women’s Club 200.00 Other 450.00 Dinners 3,000.00 Total 5,687.00 Summary: Estimated Expenses $5,925.00 Estimated Income: 5,687.00 Expenses over Income: (238.00) There was a motion by Pastor Bruce Hobbs, seconded by Baylon Loosbrock to adopt the tentative budget. Motion carried. Councilmember Kay Lasman showed a glass desk weight as an option for the organization recognition. Another suggestion was to have a pen set that was engraved. Phil Cohen asked that this item be discussed at the next meeting. BIRTHDAY PARTY DISCUSSION The timeline will be the same as last year. Cost will be $25.00/person. Cooper High School Chamber singers are not available on February 8. There was a motion by Councilmember Ed Nelson, seconded by Councilmember Kay Lasman to confirm the date as February 8, 2003 and hold the event in the Captain’s Room. Motion carried. The theme will be Honor America again as this is still very popular. Councilmember Ed Nelson volunteered to sing the National Anthem. MEETING DATE SCHEDULE Thursday, December 19, 4:00 p.m. Brooklyn Center Community Center, Cohen Room Thursday, January 16, 4:00 p.m. Brooklyn Center Community Center, Playcorner The committee was invited to go over to the Heritage Center and look at the room after the meeting. ADJOURNMENT – There was a motion by Baylon Loosbrock, seconded by Pastor Bruce Hobbs to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried.
