HomeMy WebLinkAbout2003 12-11 SECM BROOKLYN CENTER SPECIAL EVENTS COMMITTEE TUESDAY, DECEMBER 11, 2003, 4:00 PM MEETING MINUTES Chairman Phil Cohen called the Brooklyn Center Special Events Committee meeting to order at 4:12 p.m. ATTENDANCE Tony Kuefler, Taxpayers Association; Kay Lasman, Council Liaison; Baylon Loosbrock, Rotary; Len Lasman; Pastor Bruce Hobbs, Vice-Chairman; Phil Cohen, Chairman; Sue LaCrosse, recreation staff liaison; Phil Cohen, Chairman. APPROVAL OF MINUTES There was a motion by Tony Kuefler, seconded by Pastor Bruce Hobbs to approve the minutes of November 13, 2003. Motion carried. FINANCIAL REPORT Phil Cohen said he needs Pastor Bruce Hobbs signature on the bank form. He said he would revise the budget after today’s meeting and will bring it to the January meeting. Phil Cohen reported he has received a $200 donation from the Women’s Club. THEME DEVELOPMENT: Phil Cohen and Tony Kuefler met with Mary Ellen Vetter and Margaret Sandberg. Phil Cohen said Margaret Sandberg would like her “Our Town” theme to be considered for next year. Phil Cohen would like to focus on the prairie to regional center concept. Margaret Sandberg had indicated to Tony Kuefler that it would be too hard to involve the school groups with the decade’s theme. SPECIAL AWARDS Phil Cohen brought samples of possible awards. The Eagle cost is $27.80, the pen set cost is $33.55, the paperweight type trophy cost is $42.65 and a trophy similar to previous years is $25-27.00. It will cost and additional $4/trophy for engraving. There was a motion by Pastor Bruce Hobbs, seconded by Councilmember Kay Lasman to order the Eagle trophy. Motion carried. AWARDS SOLICITATION Tony Kuefler suggested sending out the invitation in January and sending out the award solicitations to clubs and organization leaders before the holidays. Councilmember Kay Lasman said the Champlin Park group called Ovation will perform Disney movie selections for approximately 10-20 minutes. They need a piano. The cost to use the grand piano at the Heritage Center is $175 because of the cost in tuning it when moved. Pastor Bruce Hobbs has a keyboard they could use. Councilmember Kay Lasman will check with the director to see if they could use that instead of a piano. Menu: Consists of classic Caesar salad, tarragon crusted breast of chicken, potato or rice, vegetables of the season and cake in the shape of Brooklyn Center.
