HomeMy WebLinkAbout2003 01-16 SECM BROOKLYN CENTER SPECIAL EVENTS COMMITTEE THURSDAY, JANUARY 16, 2003, 4 PM BROOKLYN CENTER COMMUNITY CENTER MEETING MINUTES Phil Cohen called the Brooklyn Center Special Events Committee meeting to order at 4:05 p.m. ATTENDANCE Tony Kuefler; Kay Lasman, Councilmember; Ed Nelson, Prayer Breakfast; Baylon Loosbrock, Rotary; Dorothy Jacobson, Women’s Club; Doug Darnell, Brooklyn Center community Education; Len Lasman; John Connelly, North Metro Convention & Tourism Bureau; Sue LaCrosse, Earle Brown Days; Phil Cohen, Chairman. There was a motion by Ed Nelson, seconded by Dorothy Jacobson to approve the minutes of January 9, 2003. Motion carried. BUDGET REPORT Phil Cohen said he has received $250 from Rotary, $200 from Women’s Club and gained $200 because Dale Greenwald is paying part of the band. He will have a complete financial report at the next meeting. CIVIC INVOLVEMENT Doug Darnell said the Brooklyn Center Community Education will honor someone. He wanted to know what deadline date was. Tony Kuefler said January 24. There is also commitment from Taxpayers, Women’s Club, AARP, and Rotary for nominations. Sue LaCrosse said there were no formal nominations yet. OTHER Phil Cohen suggested having some type of banner for everyone to sign. He suggested maybe Tony Kuefler could see if the Historical Society would organize. Phil Cohen said it would end up in the Historical Society stuff. A special table would be dedicated for people to sign the banner. Len Lasman suggested a scroll, which could be used every year. Tony Kuefler suggested Len Lasman research and organize this activity. The program and entertainment are all set. Phil Cohen said he would like the group from Park Center to receive special recognition. He asked Kay Lasman to write something up and he will have Dr. Orn work it into the program. Phil Cohen said he has talked to the scout leader and he said he would get back to him. So far, he has not heard from him. Phil Cohen suggested that flyer be distributed at the Lion’s Pancake Breakfast. Len Lasman suggested they be put on the trays. Next meeting: Thursday, January 23, 2003, 4 p.m. Community Center There was a motion by Doug Darnell, seconded by Ed Nelson to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried.
