BROOKLYN CENTER SPECIAL EVENTS COMMITTEE

MEETING MINUTES
Phil Cohen called the Brooklyn Center Special Events Committee meeting to order at 4:10 p.m.
ATTENDANCE
Tony Kuefler, Taxpayers Association; Kay Lasman, Council Liaison; Baylon Loosbrock, Rotary; Len Lasman;
Pastor Bruce Hobbs, Prayer Breakfast; Dale Greenwald; Mayor Myrna Kragness; Evelyn Byron, Women’s
Club; Sue LaCrosse, recreation staff liaison; Phil Cohen, Chairman.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
There was a motion by Kay Lasman, seconded by Len Lasman to approve the minutes of October 2, 2003.
Motion carried.
FINANCIAL REPORT
Phil Cohen submitted a draft of the proposed budget for 2004. Kay Lasman said the Lioness may want to
contribute. She will contact them.

Phil Cohen said the budget would be brought to the November meeting for final approval. The city is an
option for printing color copies on 8 ½ x 11. Phil Cohen said his intent is to get enough money to get the job
done. There was a motion by Kay Lasman, seconded by Pastor Hobbs to approve the tentative budget.
Motion carried.

CONTRACT
There was a motion by Kay Lasman, seconded by Pastor Hobbs to approve the Heritage Center contract.
Motion carried.
TICKET PRICE
There was a motion by Kay Lasman, seconded by Pastor Hobbs to set the ticket price at $30.00 per person.
Motion carried. Kay Lasman will set the menu.
CIVIC GROUP INVOLVEMENT
Phil Cohen assumes we will get the group support again this year. He said it recognizes people and brings
people in. His intent is to give them something really nice.
THEME DEVELOPMENT
Phil Cohen and Tony Kuefler will meet with Margaret Sandberg.
INVITATIONS
Dale Greenwald asked whom the invitations are sent to. Phil Cohen said there is a mailing list. Sue LaCrosse
said she mails them out to everyone who has attended in past years. They get the color copies. Flyers are also
given to civic group leaders to pass out at their meetings. These are not done in color. Information is in the
City Watch/Recreation Brochure and the Brooklyn Center Sun Post.
PROGRAM/ENTERTAINMENT
Kay Lasman will contact Champlin Park, Brooklyn Center and/or Park Center schools for entertainment.
NOMINATING COMMITTEE
Tony Kuefler reported there is a willing candidate for vice-chairman and he is still working on the treasurer.
He will report at the next meeting.
MEETING SCHEDULE
The next meeting is November 13. Kay Lasman said she will not be at the November 13 or December 11
meetings.
ADJOURNMENT
There was a motion by Pastor Hobbs, seconded by Len Lasman to adjourn the meeting at 4:47 p.m.
