BROOKLYN CENTER SPECIAL EVENTS COMMITTEE
TUESDAY, JANUARY 8, 2004, 4:00 PM
MEETING MINUTES
Chairman Phil Cohen called the Brooklyn Center Special Events Committee meeting to order at 4:05 p.m.
ATTENDANCE
Mayor Myrna Kragness; Tony Kuefler, Taxpayers Association; Kay Lasman, Council Liaison; Baylon
Loosbrock, Rotary; Len Lasman; Dale Greenwald; Sue Low, Business Community; Evelyn Byron, Women’s
Club; Dorothy Jacobson, Women’s Club; Tom Shinnick, Historical Society; Phil Cohen, Chairman; Sue
LaCrosse, recreation staff liaison.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Councilmember Kay Lasman had a correction for the December 11 meeting minutes. She said the Champlin
Park program will last 30 minutes and will include Disney musical selections, not movies. There was a motion
by Tony Kuefler, seconded by Councilmember Kay Lasman to approve the minutes of December 11, 2003 with
the corrections. Motion carried.
FINANCIAL REPORT
Phil Cohen said the financial report is the same as November. He does not have all of the information needed
to update it. He will have this information for the January 22 meeting. He received $200 from the Brooklyn
Center Taxpayers Association and $200 from the Lions Club. There was a motion by Mayor Myrna Kragness,
seconded by Len Lasman to approve the contract in the amount of $350 for the Joe Brough group. Motion
carried.
THEME DEVELOPMENT:
Phil Cohen reported Margaret Sandberg is working on the theme and will get in finalized before the next
meeting. She has had things come up that have detoured her work on this project. Tony Kuefler, Mary Ellen
Vetter and Phil Cohen met with Margaret to discuss what material the Historical Society may have to help with
the theme implementation. She will take everything into consideration.
Phil Cohen said that Brookdale cannot provide balloons or helium this year. Sue LaCrosse suggesting he talk
to Ron Boman to see if the fire department still has a helium tank.
SPECIAL AWARDS
Sue LaCrosse reported two nominations have been received, one from the Taxpayers Association and one from
the Women’s Club. She said it was a good idea to get the information out to the clubs and organizations
before the holidays. Phil Cohen said this year’s award will have an eagle on it.
PROGRAM/ENTERTAINMENT
Councilmember Kay Lasman reported that Champlin Park can use a keyboard and she needs to talk to Pastor
Hobbs as to what kind he has and if it has an amplifier and speaker. Dale Greenwald said they could use his
amplifier. He may be able to supply a keyboard too. Councilmember Kay Lasman will speak with her contact
at Champlin Park and call Dale Greenwald. Councilmember Kay Lasman asked Phil Cohen how much punch
for the scouts. He said 4-6 scouts.
The Women’s Club will host again.
Len Lasman will provide the scroll again.

ADJOURNMENT
There was a motion by Councilmember Kay Lasman, seconded by Mayor Myrna Kragness to adjourn the
meeting at 4:25 p.m. Motion carried.
