HomeMy WebLinkAbout2004 01-22 SECM BROOKLYN CENTER SPECIAL EVENTS COMMITTEE TUESDAY, JANUARY 22, 2004, 4:05 PM MEETING MINUTES Chairman Phil Cohen called the Brooklyn Center Special Events Committee meeting to order at 4:05 p.m. ATTENDANCE Tony Kuefler, Taxpayers Association; Kay Lasman, Council Liaison; Baylon Loosbrock, Rotary; Len Lasman; Sue Low, Business Community; Evelyn Byron, Women’s Club; Tom Shinnick, Historical Society; Pastor Bruce Hobbs, Vice-President; Phil Cohen, President; Sue LaCrosse, recreation staff liaison. APPROVAL OF MINUTES There was a motion by Councilmember Kay Lasman, seconded by Councilmember Evelyn Byron to approve the minutes of January 8, 2004. Motion carried. FINANCIAL REPORT Phil Cohen reported the estimated income is $5,381.84 and estimated expenses are $4,916.00. There was a motion by Tony Kuefler, seconded by Pastor Bruce Hobbs to approve the budget. Motion carried. THEME DEVELOPMENT: Phil Cohen reported he has not yet connected with Margaret Sandberg. Pastor Bruce Hobbs said he could laminate the placemats. SPECIAL AWARDS/CIVIC INVOLVEMENT Sue LaCrosse reported there are four nominations with applications. They are Gil Engdahl with the Charitable Foundation, Donn Escher with the Taxpayers Association, Rita Ascher with the Women’s Club, and don Carson with the Knights of Columbus. Pastor Bruce Hobbs said Debbie Felton would be the Prayer Breakfast nominee. Phil Cohen said Toni Johns will be the Earle Brown Days nominee and Bremer Bank will be the Rotary nominee. Sue Low said Dale Greenwald would be the business community nominee. There was a motion by Sue Low, seconded by Tony Kuefler to nominate Phil Cohen for the award from the Special Events committee. Motion carried. PROGRAM/ENTERTAINMENT Councilmember Kay Lasman said she spoke to the person at Champlin Park High School and the smaller keyboard is fine. She then confirmed with Dale Greenwald. It was decided to add it after the color guard. Councilmember Kay Lasman said she has to give them a low number on February 4 and we can add on until February 6. Tony Kuefler passed around a list of last year’s attendees who are not signed up this year. Everyone is going to contact people they know. MEETING SCHEDULE The next meeting is January 29, 2004.
