CIVIC GROUP INVOLVEMENT:
Phil Cohen said we added the Lioness and Historical Society to
the list of financial contributors this year. He would like to send out a memo to board members that they may
want to talk to their members to increase their contribution for next year. He would sign it.
THEME DEVELOPMENT:
Phil Cohen said the book was fabulous. There was a motion by Pastor Bruce Hobbs, seconded by Tony
Kuefler to thank and express appreciation to Margaret Sandberg for the theme development and the book.
Motion carried.
CIVIC AWARDS:
Phil Cohen asked the committee if we should repeat the same award? People really
liked it. It was decided we would wait until next year to decide. Phil Cohen said he saw one with a moving
flag. Some people are involved with many groups and could potentially be nominated more than once. It was
decided that if an organization wants to nominate someone already nominated from a different organization, we
would allow that. Phil Cohen said we would send out a notice with a page of who got the awards in the past.
Pastor Bruce Hobbs said he would like to see the same award and cited the academy award that is used every
year. People don’t mind getting that more than once.
PROGRAM:
Phil Cohen said the kids did well. Dr. Orn always does a good job. The bands were
wonderful.
DINNER:
The food was great. Dorothy Jacobson said the wild rice should have been cooked more.
The reception area worked well. Councilmember Kay Lasman said they really went above and beyond to make
sure that each student had cake and punch. They cleaned up after the scout group so that it would be nice for
the second group.
COMMITTEE ACTION:
There was a motion by Tony Kuefler, seconded by Sue Low for
Councilmember Kay Lasman to book Saturday, February 12, 2005 with Saturday, February 5, 2005 as the
backup date. Motion carried. She will contact Teresa at the Heritage Center. Len Lasman said he would like
the same cake. Councilmember Kay Lasman will also contact the Cooper singers. They always have a conflict
2
with the first Saturday of February. Since we are booking the second Saturday, they may be available.
OTHER BUSINESS:
Tony Kuefler suggested we add all city department heads to the invitation list,
Linda Scheid, school board chairs and/or the superintendents.
Councilmember Kay Lasman discussed the reservation system for tables. It was decided that in order for a
table to be reserved, there must be a paid reservation of 10. All others would be on a first-come, first-served
basis.
There was a motion by Councilmember Kay Lasman, seconded by Dorothy Jacobson to set up the next
meeting for Thursday, September 16 at 4:00 p.m. at the community center, upper level. Motion carried.
