BROOKLYN CENTER SPECIAL EVENTS COMMITTEE
TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 18, 2004, 4:00 PM
MEETING MINUTES
Phil Cohen called the Brooklyn Center Special Events Committee meeting to order at 4:07 p.m.
ATTENDANCE
Kay Lasman, Council Liaison; Baylon Loosbrock, Treasurer; Len Lasman; Evelyn Byron, Women’s Club;
Dorothy Jacobson, Women’s Club; Phil Cohen, President; Tom Shinnick, Brooklyn Historical Society; Dale
Greenwald; Tony Kuefler, Taxpayers Association; Sue Low, Business Community; Sue LaCrosse, recreation
staff liaison.
TREASURER’S REPORT
Baylon Loosbrock reported a bank balance of $679.07. He said he received a $200 donation from the BC
Taxpayers bringing the total to $879.07. There was a motion by Tom Shinnick, seconded by Councilmember
Kay Lasman to accept the treasurer’s report. Motion carried.
CIVIC GROUP INVOLVEMENT
Phil Cohen said the Women’s Club and Taxpayers groups have paid. He said Pastor Hobbs contacted the Fire
Relief Association and they indicated to him they would donate $300. Phil Cohen has to draft a letter.
THEME DEVELOPMENT
Tony Kuefler said Margaret Sandberg had nothing to report.
PROGRAM/ENTERTAINMENT
Councilmember Kay Lasman reported she booked Linda Boreen and said she is thrilled to be paid $50 plus her
dinner. She will perform for about 15-20 minutes. Dale Greenwald expressed concern about the band playing
when people were leaving.
ELECTION OF OFFICERS
Tony Kuefler reported the slate of officers has been set. There was a motion by Tony Kuefler, seconded by
Councilmember Kay Lasman to elect Phil Cohen, President, Pastor Bruce Hobbs, Vice-President, Baylon
Loosbrock, Treasurer and Sue LaCrosse, Secretary as the 2005 officers. Motion carried.
SCROLL
Len Lasman will be responsible for the scroll.
NEW BUSINESS
Phil Cohen proposed a Last Person Standing Award, looking forward to the celebration in 2011. To qualify,
each year a person attends, their name would be recorded. In 2011, the person who attends the most years
wins. If there were a tie, we would pick names. There was discussion on when we should start, this year or go
back to the beginning of the birthday parties. There was a motion by Tony Kuefler, seconded by
Councilmember Kay Lasman to adopt the concept and start from 2005. Motion carried. There was a motion
by Councilmember Kay Lasman, seconded by Len Lasman to have as the award the key to the City and $100.
Motion carried.
OTHER
Councilmember Kay Lasman asked if she should order punch at $24.50 for a gallon or give tickets for soft
drinks at the bar at $1.25 each. She will also order cake for them. Phil Cohen said we should decide this later.

Dorothy Jacobson said she would be willing to help with the door prizes.
NEXT MEETING
The next meeting will be held Thursday, December 16 at 4:00 p.m. at the community center.
ADJOURNMENT
There was a motion by Dorothy Jacobson, seconded by Evelyn Byron to adjourn the meeting at
4:42 p.m. Motion carried. The meeting was adjourned.
