HomeMy WebLinkAbout2005 01-13 SECM BROOKLYN CENTER SPECIAL EVENTS COMMITTEE TUESDAY, JANAURY 13, 2005, 4:00 PM MEETING MINUTES Phil Cohen called the Brooklyn Center Special Events Committee meeting to order at 4:11 p.m. ATTENDANCE Len Lasman; Tom Shinnick, Brooklyn Historical Society; Tony Kuefler, Taxpayers Association; Baylon Loosbrock, Treasurer; Evelyn Byron, Women’s Club; Kay Lasman, Council Liaison, Phil Cohen, President; Sue LaCrosse, recreation staff liaison. APPROVAL OF MINUTES There was a motion by Tony Kuefler, seconded by Sue LaCrosse to amend the minutes of December 16 by removing “There was a motion by Dorothy Jacobson, seconded by Len Lasman thanking Phil Cohen for his generosity in donating the $100 for the Last Person Standing Award. Motion carried. TREASURER’S REPORT Baylon Loosbrock reported he has received $300 from Rotary, $200 from Women’s Club, $200 from the Taxpayers Association, and $300 from Fire Relief. The checkbook balance is $1,079. With the fire relief contribution, total assets are $1,379. There was a motion by Tony Kuefler, seconded by Councilmember Kay Lasman to approve the treasurer’s report. Motion carried. CIVIC GROUP INVOLVEMENT Sue LaCrosse said she has received an official nomination form for Lee Skavanger and Dorothy Jacobson. There was a motion by Councilmember Kay Lasman, seconded by Evelyn Byron to nominate Pastor Hobbs as the Special Events Award Recipient. Motion carried. Tony Kuefler will write up the nomination. Phil Cohen reported that Dorothy Jacobson has gotten prizes and that Bremer Bank will purchase seven tickets. THEME DEVELOPMENT Phil Cohen reported that Margaret Sandberg has everything under control. PROGRAM/ENTERTAINMENT Councilmember Lasman and Tony Kuefler met with Bob Milne and he is all set to sing “Danny Boy.” Tony Kuefler said he does not want his name on the program in case he is sick or something. Tony was thinking maybe he could be worked in during Dale’s band. There was a motion by Evelyn Byron, seconded by Kay Lasman to approve the contract for Joe Brough for $350. Motion carried. SCOUTS Phil Cohen has left a message for the boy scouts. There was a motion by Tony Kuefler, seconded by Len Lasman to give the scouts tickets to redeem for beverages rather than punch. Motion carried. NEW BUSINESS It was decided Sue LaCrosse would design a label for the Last Person Standing Award jar. She will make up a draft to present at the next meeting. 1 There was a motion by Tony Kuefler, seconded by Councilmember Kay Lasman to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried. NEXT MEETING The next meeting will be held Thursday, January 13 at 4:00 p.m. at the community center.
