BROOKLYN CENTER SPECIAL EVENTS COMMITTEE
THURSDAY, JANUARY 12, 2006, 4:15 PM
MEETING MINUTES
Phil Cohen called the Brooklyn Center Special Events Committee meeting to order at 4:15 p.m.
ATTENDANCE
Baylon Loosbrock, Treasurer; Len Lasman, Scroll; Councilmember Kay Lasman, council liaison;
Dorothy Jacobson, Women’s Club; Phil Cohen, President; Margaret Sandberg, Theme &
Decorations; Sue Low, Business Community; Tony Kuefler, Taxpayers Association; Pastor Bruce
Hobbs, Vice-President; Mary Focht, Bremer Bank, Sue LaCrosse, recreation staff liaison.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
There was a motion by Tony Kuefler, seconded by Dorothy Jacobson to approve the minutes of the
December 8, 2005 meeting. Motion carried.
FINANCIAL REPORT
Treasurer Baylon Loosbrock reported a checkbook balance of $462.91. $505 is being held in the
City account. The business association paid $60 for Paul Engelman. Sue LaCrosse said Paul already
paid for two reservations. He should be told he can bring two additional people. There was a motion
by Tony Kuefler, seconded by Dorothy Jacobson to approve the financial report. Motion carried.
Phil Cohen said he received a great deal on the pens. He was able to purchase 200 pens for the cost
of 100 pens. The cost was $91.02.
Councilmember Kay Lasman said the $3,000 overhead for the room is an oversimplified way of
looking at it the contract. She said there will be services and taxes, add on costs for the podium, flags
and microphone. Cost will end up being more like $3,407.
COMMUNITY AWARDS
To date we have heard from the following organizations regarding their nomination: Brooklyn Center
Business Association, Charitable Foundation, Crime Prevention, Lions & Lioness, Prayer Breakfast,
Rotary, Special Events Committee, Taxpayers, Women’s Club, Earle Brown Days and the Knights of
Columbus. There is also a tentative nomination from the Charter Commission.
CIVIC GROUP INVOLVEMENT
We have received donations from Brooklyn Center American Legion Auxiliary, Brooklyn Center
Business Association, Brooklyn Center Taxpayers Association, Brooklyn Center Women’s Club.
Total contributions are $705.
THEME DEVELOPMENT
Theme development is still in progress.
PUNCH LIST
The committee went through the punch list of action items to be addressed before the event. Items
were moved from the preliminary to the final column.

OTHER BUSINESS
Sue LaCrosse will send information to Sarah at the Sun Post. Len Lasman suggested a notice be sent
to Cable 12.
Pastor Bruce Hobbs said he will not be able to attend the birthday celebration this year. He will
recruit someone to do the invocation.
Councilmember Kay Lasman, Len Lasman and Pastor Bruce Hobbs will not attend the next meeting.

Thursday, January 19; Thursday, January 26; Thursday, February 2.

Next meeting is Thursday, January 26, 2006 at 4:15 p.m.
ADJOURNMENT
There was a motion by Pastor Bruce Hobbs, seconded by Sue Low to adjourn the meeting. The
meeting was adjourned at 5:00 p.m.
