BROOKLYN CENTER SPECIAL EVENTS COMMITTEE
THURSDAY, MARCH 9, 2006, 4:15 PM
MEETING MINUTES
Phil Cohen called the Brooklyn Center Special Events Committee meeting to order at 4:20 p.m.
ATTENDANCE
Baylon Loosbrock, Treasurer; Phil Cohen, President; Tom Shinnick, Lions Club; Councilmember Kay
Lasman; Len Lasman, Scroll; Sue Low, Business Community; Tony Kuefler, Taxpayers Association;
Dale Greenwald, Business Community; Dorothy Jacobson, Women’s Club; Margaret Sandberg,
Decorations; Pastor Bruce Hobbs, Prayer Breakfast; Sue LaCrosse, recreation staff liaison.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
There was a motion by Tom Shinnick, seconded by Dorothy Jacobson to approve the minutes of the
February 2, 2006 meeting. Motion carried.
FINANCIAL REPORT
Treasurer Baylon Loosbrock reported contributions equaled $2,355 and we had 134 people for
revenue of $4,020. Dinners cost $2,963.25, with gratuities at $573.09. Ending balance is $598.89.
There was a motion by Pastor Hobbs, seconded by Len Lasman to approve the treasurer’s report.
Motion carried.
CIVIC GROUP INVOLVEMENT
Phil Cohen reported there was good involvement. We were lucky the other room was available. But
it is $5,000 room. 175 is the maximum for the $5,000 room. We could raise the ticket price and try
to get more donations. The Brooklyn Center Business Association and Crime Prevention were new.
At the first meeting for 2007, Phil Cohen would like to get a few committee members together to
explore how we could get close to $5,000. There was a motion by Tony Kuefler, seconded by Tom
Shinnick to reserve the Captain’s Room. Motion carried. Dale Greenwald, Sue Low and Pastor
Bruce Hobbs abstained from voting.
THEME DEVELOPMENT
Margaret Sandberg reported the theme for 2007 will be Changing Face of Brooklyn Center.
AWARDS
A decision should be made at the first meeting as to who should be invited to participate in the
awards.
ENTERTAINMENT
Councilmember Kay Lasman will contact in this order Park Center, Champlin Park, Brooklyn
Center. Dorothy Jacobson said Cooper might have a group from the drama department.
OTHER BUSINESS
Phil Cohen said we have two new members for the committee. They are Linda Hanka and Doug
Darnell.

Pastor Bruce Hobbs said he will have a retreat on February 3 next year. He will probably always have
this conflict. If we hold it the second weekend, Dale Greenwald’s band has a conflict. There was a
motion by Dorothy Jacobson, seconded by Councilmember Kay Lasman to hold the event on the first
Saturday of the month in February. Motion carried.
There was a motion by Dale Greenwald, seconded by Councilmember Kay Lasman to keep Pastor
Bruce Hobbs as vice chairman. Motion carried.
NEXT MEETING
Next meeting is Thursday, September 21, 2006, 4:15 p.m. in Room 221 at the community center.
ADJOURNMENT
There was a motion by Pastor Bruce Hobbs, seconded by Tom Shinnick to adjourn the meeting.
The meeting was adjourned at 5:15 p.m.
