BROOKLYN CENTER SPECIAL EVENTS COMMITTEE
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 21, 2006, 4:00 PM
MEETING MINUTES
Phil Cohen called the Brooklyn Center Special Events Committee meeting to order at 4:15 p.m.
ATTENDANCE
Baylon Loosbrock, Treasurer; Phil Cohen, President; Councilmember Kay Lasman; Len Lasman,
Scroll; Margaret Sandberg, Decorations; Mayor Myrna Kragness; Monique Drier, Cultural Liaison;
Dale Greenwald; Sue LaCrosse, recreation staff liaison.
MONIQUE DRIER INFORMATION:
Monique Drier said the three largest diverse groups in Brooklyn Center are Liberian, Hmong, and
Latino. She said in some nationalities birthdays are not celebrated. So, they may not understand the
concept of this event. She said they receive information differently than we do. For them it is word
of mouth, not the written form. If you want to get them involved, get them involved in the planning
process. The food that is served may not be the type of food they are accustomed to eating.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
There was a motion by Councilmember Kay Lasman, seconded by Baylon Loosbrock to approve the
minutes of March 9, 2006 and August 16, 2006. Motion carried.
SET TICKET PRICE
There was a motion by Margaret Sandberg, seconded by Mayor Myrna Kragness to set the ticket
price at $32.00/person. Motion carried.
TABLE FAVORS
There was a motion by Councilmember Kay Lasman, seconded by Margaret Sandberg to purchase
table favors but not to exceed $100. Motion carried.
NEXT MEETING
Next meeting is Thursday, October 19, 2006, 4:15 p.m. in Room 221 at the community center.
ADJOURNMENT
The meeting was adjourned at 5:15 p.m.
