HomeMy WebLinkAbout2007 02-01 SECM BROOKLYN CENTER SPECIAL EVENTS COMMITTEE THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 1, 2007, 4:15 PM MEETING MINUTES Phil Cohen called the Brooklyn Center Special Events Committee meeting to order at 4:20 p.m. ATTENDANCE Baylon Loosbrock, Treasurer; Councilmember Kay Lasman; Len Lasman, Scroll; Dorothy Jacobson, Women’s Club; Tony Kuefler, Taxpayers Association; Tom Shinnick, Lions Club; Sue Low, Business Community; Doug Darnell, District 286; Phil Cohen, President; Sue LaCrosse, recreation staff liaison. APPROVAL OF MINUTES There was a motion by Tony Kuefler, seconded by Doug Darnell to approve the minutes of January 25, 2007. Motion carried. TREASURER’S REPORT Baylon Loosbrock reported that the bottom line is we will probably be okay financially. There was a motion by Dorothy Jacobson, seconded by Tony Kuefler to approve the treasurer’s report. Motion carried. CIVIC GROUP INVOLVEMENT Phil Cohen reported that the trophies are set. DECORATIONS: Phil Cohen has the helium covered. Ron Boman will drop off tomorrow. The favors are done. Sue Low held up the sign for the harpist. PROGRAM/ENTERTAINMENT Councilmember Kay Lasman will introduce the choir director who will introduce the harpist. DOOR PRIZES Dorothy Jacobson has 33 door prizes. Sue Low has between 15-20 door prizes. NEW BUSINESS Phil Cohen said he has talked to the city manager and the mayor about a 2011 Centennial Celebration committee. He would like the mayor to appoint a chair. Phil Cohen is thinking of a budget of $20,000. He believes the city should at least underwrite the fireworks. He would like the service organizations to support it by asking members to participate on a steering committee. Councilmember Kay Lasman has submitted this as an agenda item for a future city council work session. Phil Cohen will have sign up sheets on the tables at the birthday party. MEETING SCHEDULE The next meeting is Thursday, March 8 at 4:15 p.m. at Kay and Len Lasman’s house, 4407 Woodbine Lane. 1 There was a motion by Tony Kuefler, seconded by Sue Low to approve Councilmember Kay Lasman and Sue LaCrosse to pay the Heritage Center bill.
