BROOKLYN CENTER SPECIAL EVENTS COMMITTEE
THURSDAY, JANUARY 25, 2007, 4:15 PM
MEETING MINUTES
Phil Cohen called the Brooklyn Center Special Events Committee meeting to order at 4:20 p.m.
ATTENDANCE
Baylon Loosbrock, Treasurer; Councilmember Kay Lasman; Len Lasman, Scroll; Dorothy Jacobson,
Women’s Club; Tony Kuefler, Taxpayers Association; Tom Shinnick, Lions Club; Sue Low,
Business Community; Doug Darnell, District 286; Phil Cohen, President; Mayor Tim Willson; Sue
LaCrosse, recreation staff liaison.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
There was a correction to the minutes of January 18. Tony Kuefler said regarding the birthday
th
celebration of 2011, it should be added this is the 100 birthday. There was a motion by Tom
Shinnick, seconded by Tony Kuefler to approve the minutes of January 18, 2007 with this correction.
Motion carried.
TREASURER’S REPORT
Baylon Loosbrock reported a shortfall of approximately $1,000 in revenues. With the saving of the
$275 honorarium for the school group and with the carryover from last year, we might be okay.
There was a motion by Tony Kuefler, seconded by Doug Darnell to approve the treasurer’s report.
Motion carried.
CIVIC GROUP INVOLVEMENT
Sue LaCrosse said we have 14 nominees. We still need the information sheet on four of them.
PROGRAM/ENTERTAINMENT
Councilmember Kay Lasman reported the entertainment will be provided by James Buxton, renowned
harpist. She said because of the number of award recipients and the fact that it is a solo artist; we
have shortened his performance to 20 minutes. We expect him to begin at 7:45 p.m. Phil Cohen said
we need some type of disclosure that the Cooper Singers will not be there. Sue Low will make a
poster.
DOOR PRIZES
Dorothy Jacobson and Sue Low have collected a lot of door prizes.
COMMITTEE ACTION/ACTIVITY SCHEDULE
The following items are still pending: Program, name tags, helium. The trophies have been ordered.
Doug Darnell, Councilmember Kay Lasman, Len Lasman, Tony Kuefler and Dorothy Jacobson
volunteered to help with decorations. They will meet Margaret at the Heritage Center at Noon. It
was reported we have moved to the Garden City Room. It has a capacity of 300. Councilmember
Kay Lasman said we will be supplied a dance floor at no extra cost and there will be tables of 8

instead of 10.
TABLE FAVORS
Sue Low passed out sample bookmarks, which will be used as table favors.
NEW BUSINESS
Phil Cohen said John Stewart is willing to provide himself or his son as the photographer for the cost
of a ticket. The committee approved the request.
Phil Cohen would like to pass around a sign up sheet to see what kind of interest there is in
th
developing a Year 2011, 100 birthday party committee. He is hoping to get some younger people
and is looking for a general chair, like a Doug Darnell. By next year we need to have a committee in
place. He is hoping to have a preliminary budget in place by then.
Sue LaCrosse requested volunteers for the Business Expo at Brookdale on February 23 & 24.
Councilmember Kay Lasman said she need the final dinner count by January 31.
MEETING SCHEDULE
The next meeting is Thursday, February 1 at 4:15 p.m. in Room 221 at the community center.
