BROOKLYN CENTER SPECIAL EVENTS COMMITTEE

MEETING MINUTES
Phil Cohen called the Brooklyn Center Special Events Committee meeting to order at 4:23 p.m.
ATTENDANCE
Phil Cohen, President; Councilmember Kay Lasman; Len Lasman, Scroll; Dorothy Jacobson,
Women’s Club; Sue Low, Business Association; Baylon Loosbrock, Treasurer; Tom Shinnick, Lions
Club; Tony Kuefler, Taxpayers Association; and Sue LaCrosse, recreation staff liaison.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
There was a motion by Tom Shinnick, seconded by Dorothy Jacobson to approve the minutes of
January 17, 2008. Motion carried.
TREASURER’S REPORT
Baylon Loosbrock reported income and expenses. He said we are $176 short. The Lioness Club
donated $200 and Phil Cohen said we will probably receive $300 from North Memorial. There was a
motion by Dorothy Jacobson, seconded by Tony Kuefler to approve the Treasurer’s Report. Motion
carried.

PROGRAM/ENTERTAINMENT
Phil Cohen said Chris Porter will go over to the Heritage Center to take a look at the room. It is
official we have the Garden City Room. Councilmember Kay Lasman said the students will have a
separate coat rack and Phil should let Chris know where that will be. She asked Phil to let Chris
know where the refreshments will be.
COMMITTEE ACTION ITEMS
The following items went from pending to done: Birthday cake, cake/punch for students, door prize
tickets, and invocation.
Councilmember Kay Lasman gave them a preliminary count yesterday. We have to give them our
th
firm count on the 30. We can only add one or two after that.
Phil Cohen has a meeting with the fire chief on Friday and will talk to him about the dinner and the
helium.
NEW BUSINESS
Councilmember Kay Lasman asked for a clarification on the 2011 Celebration Committee. The
discussion of this topic is tabled to the wrap-up meeting.
NEXT MEETING
The next meeting is Thursday, January 31, 2008 at 4:15 p.m. at the community center.
ADJOURNMENT
There was a motion by Len Lasman, seconded by Tom Shinnick to adjourn the meeting.
The meeting was adjourned at 5:16 p.m.
