BROOKLYN CENTER SPECIAL EVENTS COMMITTEE
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 16, 2008, 4:15 PM
MEETING MINUTES
Phil Cohen called the Brooklyn Center Special Events Committee meeting to order
at 4:30 p.m.
ATTENDANCE
Baylon Loosbrock, Treasurer; Councilmember Kay Lasman; Len Lasman, Scroll; Tony Kuefler, Taxpayers
Association; Phil Cohen, President; Tom Shinnick, Lions Club; Dorothy Jacobson, Women’s Club; Sue
LaCrosse, recreation staff liaison.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
There was a motion by Tom Shinnick, seconded by Tony Kuefler to approve the minutes of September 18,
2008. Motion carried.
TREASURER’S REPORT
The committee received $250 from Bremer Bank and $200 from the Women’s Club. The ticket price was
estimated at $35/person and based on 120 people. It is anticipated that there would be no increases in
honorariums. The awards were figured at $37.50 plus tax. Baylon Loosbrock reported an estimated income
of $6,700 with expenses of $6,642. There is an estimated balance of $57 added to our current balance of
$855.81. If it goes well, we could see a carry over to 2010 of $913.70. There was a motion by Dorothy
Jacobson, seconded by Tom Shinnick to approve the treasurer’s report. Motion carried.
There was a motion by Tony Kuefler, seconded by Tom Shinnick to set the ticket price at $35. Motion
carried.
NOMINATION COMMITTEE
There was a motion by Tony Kuefler, seconded by Dorothy Jacobson to approve the board as follows: Phil
Cohen, President; Pastor Bruce Hobbs, Vice-President; Baylon Loosbrock, Treasurer; Sue LaCrosse,
Secretary. Motion carried.
CIVIC GROUP INVOLVEMENT
There was a motion by Tom Shinnick, seconded by Baylon to approve the list. Motion carried.
THEME DEVELOPMENT
Phil Cohen asked everyone to look at the themes. If anyone has any additional suggestions, they should
contact him or Sue before the next meeting. Theme selection will be deferred to the November meeting.
PROGRAM/ENTERTAINMENT
Councilmember Kay Lasman reported the Brooklyn Junior jazz ensemble hasn’t started yet but the band
teacher is very interested. The program would begin at 7:00 p.m. with the band performing at 7:10/7:15 p.m.

NEW BUSINESS
There was a motion by Baylon Loosbrock, seconded by Dorothy Jacobson to purchase 200 pens @ 48¢ each.
Motion carried.
MEETING SCHEDULE
The next meeting to be determined.
ADJOURNMENT
There was a motion by Councilmember Kay Lasman, seconded by Dorothy Jacobson to adjourn the
meeting. The meeting was adjourned at 4:56 p.m.
