OTHER - CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION
The committee plans to carry out the birthday party through 2011. Phil Cohen reported a larger
room will be reserved. If it comes down to someone else wanting it, then we will receive a call and
the city will have to step in. We would prefer the Centennial Committee does not solicit the same
organizations that contribute to the birthday party.
th
Phil Cohen said the 75 Birthday had fireworks. Councilmember Kay Lasman said the 2000
Celebration had fireworks. Phil Cohen said he would like to consider budgeting $10,000 for
fireworks for the birthday party. Sue LaCrosse said the other fireworks displays were at Central
Park. There is not a good spot for fireworks by the Heritage Center.
Margaret Sandberg said she would like us to work with the churches and encourage them to nominate
one of their volunteers for the award.
We would like to increase the decorating budget and set aside some money for scholarships. Pastor
Bruce Hobbs suggested having some extra awards and inviting special guests of the committee by
subsidizing their dinners.
Phil Cohen would like to bring in our new citizens.
Sue Low said she was concerned that so many people leave right after the awards and don’t get to
hear Dale Greenwald’s band. Sue LaCrosse suggested starting a ½ hour earlier. It was suggested for
2009 we have a grand prize drawing, maybe tickets for next year’s birthday party. The person would
have to be present to win and the tickets would be non transferable. This might entice people to stay
around to the end. Baylon Loosbrock suggested presenting five awards first, then entertainment for a
while, then 5 more, etc. Sue LaCrosse said she thinks the five people and their guests would leave
after they received their awards.
The event will start ½ hour earlier and Phil Cohen will have a contract for Joe Brough and Dale
Greenwald by the next meeting.
MEETING SCHEDULE
The next meeting is Thursday, October 16, 2008 at 4:30 p.m. at the community center.
ADJOURNMENT
There was a motion by Pastor Bruce Hobbs, seconded by Tom Shinnick to adjourn the meeting.
The meeting was adjourned at 5:05 p.m.
Respectfully Submitted,
Sue LaCrosse
