HomeMy WebLinkAbout2009 01-08 SECM BROOKLYN CENTER SPECIAL EVENTS COMMITTEE THURSDAY, JANUARY 8, 2009, 4:30 PM MEETING MINUTES Phil Cohen called the Brooklyn Center Special Events Committee meeting to order at 4:30 p.m. ATTENDANCE Baylon Loosbrock, Treasurer; Councilmember Kay Lasman; Len Lasman, Scroll; Tony Kuefler, Taxpayers Association; Phil Cohen, President; Tom Shinnick, Lions Club; Margaret Sandberg, Theme Development; Dr. Duane Orn; Pastor Bruce Hobbs, Vice-President; Doug Darnell; Sue Low, Business Community; Dale Greenwald; Dorothy Jacobson, Women’s Club; Sue LaCrosse, recreation staff liaison. APPROVAL OF MINUTES There was a motion by Doug Darnell, seconded by Dorothy Jacobson to approve the minutes of November 20, 2008. Motion carried. TREASURER’S REPORT Baylon Loosbrock reported budgeted dinner income at $4,200 and contributions at $2,500. Expenses are projected at $6,680.27. We have had three more donations from the Historical Society, Taxpayers Association and Dale Greenwald. There was a motion by Dorothy Jacobson, seconded by Pastor Bruce Hobbs to approve the treasurer’s report. Motion carried. CIVIC GROUP INVOLVEMENT Nominations received from Earle Brown Days - Mike Meyer and Lions Club - Logan Ammon. There was a motion by Len Lasman, seconded by Dale Greenwald to nominate Doug Darnell for the award from the Special Events Committee. Motion carried. Other nominations should include Taxpayers - Jan Thielson; Prayer Breakfast - John Krause; and Women’s Club - Fran Schlosser. PROGRAM/ENTERTAINMENT Councilmember Kay Lasman reported Brooklyn Junior Jazz Band does not need risers. They will need 15 chairs and the rest of them stand. Earle Brown Heritage Center is going to provide a dance floor at no additional charge. We will need to order one more gallon of punch but they can adjust the cake to accommodate the extra students. COMMITTEE ACTION ITEMS Sue Low will emcee the awards program. Tony Kuefler has the door prize tickets. Doug Darnell will emcee the door prize give-a-ways. Dorothy Jacobson has 13 nice prizes so far. She is doing really well. She gives the businesses a copy of the program from the previous year to show them how they will be recognized. It was decided we should do a follow-up thank you letter to contributors. Sue LaCrosse said we will not be able to do a Northwest Cities show this year because Brooklyn Center’s rotation doesn’t come up for awhile. She said her supervisor is checking to see if there would be another way to get the information on Channel 12. Dr. Orn will see if he can get us on a program. Phil Cohen has ordered the pens. OTHER Doug Darnell suggested we burn a CD for each award recipient. Tom Shinnick and Dr. Orn are going to check on some ideas for doing this. Taping the entertainment and the awards ceremony and the taking of pictures is tabled to the January 15 meeting. MEETING SCHEDULE The next meeting is January 15, 22, 29, & February 5 at 4:30 p.m. ADJOURNMENT There was a motion by Tom Shinnick, seconded by Dorothy Jacobson to adjourn the meeting.
