HomeMy WebLinkAbout2009 01-29 SECM BROOKLYN CENTER SPECIAL EVENTS COMMITTEE THURSDAY, JANUARY 29, 2009, 4:30 PM MEETING MINUTES Phil Cohen called the Brooklyn Center Special Events Committee meeting to order at 4:30 p.m. ATTENDANCE Baylon Loosbrock, Treasurer; Tony Kuefler, Taxpayers Association; Phil Cohen, President; Tom Shinnick, Lions Club; Dorothy Jacobson, Women’s Club; Doug Darnell; Pastor Bruce Hobbs, Vice-President; Dale Greenwald; Sue LaCrosse, recreation staff liaison. APPROVAL OF MINUTES There was a motion by Pastor Bruce Hobbs, seconded by Baylon Loosbrock to approve the minutes of January 22, 2009. Motion carried. TREASURER’S REPORT Baylon Loosbrock reported contributions of $1,850 plus $649 held by the City. With 188 tickets sold so far, our ticket revenue is $6,580. Sue LaCrosse said we have 21 awards to budget for. Phil Cohen said he would like to talk about the number of awards given out and the deadline date at the wrap up meeting. This part of the program survives on contributions from the civic organizations and many did not donate this year. There was a motion by Tom Shinnick, seconded by Pastor Bruce Hobbs to approve the treasurer’s report. Motion carried. Sue LaCrosse said we are now up to 191 paid reservations. Phil Cohen said he contacted the pen company to find out how much it would cost to have more pens printed or if he can purchase them without the printing. CIVIC GROUP INVOLVEMENT We have two more nominations bringing our count to 21. PROGRAM/ENTERTAINMENT No report. COMMITTEE ACTION ITEMS Dorothy Jacobson reported the response has been really good. She received $40 cash contribution from Brookdale Center along with a $60 prize donation. McDonalds was really generous giving her $200 in food gift certificates. The committee discussed the floor plan and the flow of the awards. If possible the committee would like to have their next meeting at the Heritage Center. Sue LaCrosse will check and email everyone. The committee reviewed the program and made changes to the contributions section. Sue LaCrosse will contact Sue Low for any changes to the contributions. The program timeline was revised by adding at 6:55 p.m. Veteran’s Recognition. OTHER Sue LaCrosse distributed the thank you cards and said for committee members to take what they need along with envelopes. If they want to write the name and address on the envelope she can send them out otherwise, they can hand deliver them. She reported for Councilmember Kay Lasman the information for th the marquee, “Brooklyn Center 98 Birthday and Community Awards Celebration.” Committee agreed. MEETING SCHEDULE The next meeting is February 5 at 4:30 p.m. at the community center and the wrap-up meeting on March 12 at the Lasman’s.
