APPROVAL OF MINUTES There was a motion by Doug Darnell, seconded by Tom Shinnick to approve the minutes of February 5, 2009. Motion carried. CIVIC GROUP INVOLVEMENT Tony Kuefler reported we need to allow organizations time to have a meeting to see if they are going to have a nomination. At the September meeting the committee will go through the packet. The booklets were a nice touch and helped moved things along. Sue LaCrosse gave the committee a calendar of dates for the 2010 celebration. THEME DEVELOPMENT/DECORATIONS The decorations were great. Margaret Sandberg said she was very glad for the help. She expressed concern that every year the roses and her vases disappear. She doesn’t know how to stop it. She said Paul Engleman upgraded the paper stock and added color to the booklet. The total cost of the project was $283, which he donated. She saw the flag banner at Northport School and asked if she could use it. She worked on a television promo using the flag and the Hall of Fame panels. She did not get any of the television stations interested in the story. She was disappointed that people talked during her announcements of the decorations. She said few, if any, knew these were Hall of Famers and that first grade students made the flag. She would like to have a written handout next year. She also explained how much extra work Laurie Rondesvedt and her students did on the panels. She said the art program has had cuts and the students had to do much of this on their own time. She said three people asked if we had to have door prizes. She said most people left before and during the performance of Dale’s band. She suggested the sponsoring organizations be expected to pay a monetary amount to pay for their dinners and the cost of the award. TREASURER’S REPORT Baylon Loosbrock reported a balance of $1,764. There was a motion by Tony Kuefler, seconded by Dorothy Jacobson to authorize Baylon Loosbrock to invest part of the money into a CD. Motion carried. Councilmember Kay Lasman said the band had to rent a trailer to transport their instruments. There was a motion by Councilmember Kay Lasman, seconded by Tom Shinnick to give a stipend of $250 plus the cost of the trailer rental not to exceed $100 to Brooklyn Junior Band. Motion carried. There was a motion by Tom Shinnick, seconded by Margaret Sandberg to give a stipend of $150 to Earle Brown Elementary earmarked for Laurie’s art program. Motion carried. There was a motion by Tom Shinnick, seconded by Dorothy Jacobson to approve the treasurer’s report. Motion carried. Phil Cohen said we may have to increase the honorarium for the school group in the future. He said the scout troop is merging with #454 of St. Al’s. Phil Cohen will attend a meeting of theirs. Mike Harrison has a commitment from them that they will continue doing the birthday party. DINNER The dinner was wonderful. DOOR PRIZES This item was tabled until the September meeting. OLD BUSINESS Dr. Orn reported we are still lacking on our minority population, the scouts have merged and as a community we need to support them on an ongoing basis, the sound for video taping needs to be improved, the door prizes could flow better, and the candidate streamlining should not be too short. He added he appreciated the large print on the agenda for the emcee. Phil Cohen thanked Dorothy Jacobson for going out to get the prizes. Dorothy Jacobson said she really liked the thank you notes. NEW BUSINESS Sue LaCrosse said that Alfred Johnson made numerous DVD copies of the program. Sue LaCrosse and Councilmember Kay Lasman will nominate him in the fall for Random Acts of Kindess. Sue LaCrosse recommends we nominate Laurie Rondesvedt too. The committee thanked Dr. Orn for organizing Alfred to video tape. Margaret Sandberg said this event appeared in the North Metro Section of the Star Tribune. She brought pictures to the kids at Northport and Earle Brown so they could see how everything looked. Theme development for 2010 will be discussed in the fall. MEETING SCHEDULE The kick-off meeting is Thursday, September 17, 2009 at 4:30 p.m. in Room 221 of the Community Center. ADJOURNMENT There was a motion by Tom Shinnick, seconded by Dorothy Jacobson to adjourn the meeting. The meeting was adjourned. Respectfully Submitted, Sue LaCrosse, Program Supervisor
