CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION
Phil Cohen reported that we need to work fast to get something going. He would like the Special
Events Committee to govern the project. We may have to have some additional meetings
throughout the year instead of ending in February. The hype will begin with the 2010 Birthday
Party. There was a motion by Dr. Duane Orn, seconded by Councilmember Kay Lasman to
appoint Keith Lester to the board of directors of the Special Events Committee. Motion carried.
There was a motion by Dr. Duane Orn, seconded by Sue Low to recommend him as the
Centennial Chair. Motion carried.
Phil Cohen said we have got to leave a legacy, something more than we did for the Millennium
th
and the 75. He would like to have a package at the table for each person who attends the party
and needs some type of recommendation of what we want to have in the package.
Keith Lester said he put together a draft of ideas for the Centennial Celebration. He would like to
begin working on a logo and start branding everything. For the theme, he would like to select
something that will represent all aspects of Brooklyn Center. He said Phil Cohen would like the
logo to be red, white and blue. The committee would focus on existing events and add to it with
new events. He would like to focus on some larger corporations for donations. Phil Cohen said
the solicitation for donations should not start until Earle Brown Days is over. Keith Lester said
they will probably put together a short term budget for council approval and then do a long term
budget later.
Sue Low distributed some information on things that could be given away or sold such as
calendars, pins, buttons, and tote bags.
TABLE FAVORS
Phil Cohen said it takes about ten days to receive pen after ordering. This will be decided at our next
meeting.
