BROOKLYN CENTER SPECIAL EVENTS COMMITTEE
THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 4, 2010, 4:30 PM
MEETING MINUTES
Phil Cohen called the Brooklyn Center Special Events Committee meeting to order at
4:30 p.m.
ATTENDANCE
Phil Cohen, President; Tony Kuefler, Taxpayers Association; Baylon Loosbrock, Treasurer; Len
Lasman, Scroll; Tom Shinnick, Lions Club; Sue Low; Councilmember Kay Lasman; Doug Darnell;
Pastor Bruce Hobbs, Vice-President; Dorothy Jacobson, Women’s Club; Dr. Duane Orn; Sue
LaCrosse, recreation staff liaison.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
There was a motion by Pastor Bruce Hobbs, seconded by Sue Low to approve the minutes of January
28, 2010. Motion carried.
TREASURER’S REPORT
Baylon Loosbrock reported a bank balance of $2,884.38. He said we received an additional $50 from
the Historical Society. After all expenses are paid, it is projected there will be a carryover of $1,058.
There was a motion by Pastor Bruce Hobbs, seconded by Doug Darnell to approve the Treasurer’s
Report. Motion carried.
CIVIC AWARDS
Phil Cohen said he has picked up the civic awards.
PROGRAM/ENTERTAINMENT
Phil Cohen went through the agenda. Pastor Hobbs and Doug Darnell will assist with the awards
presentation and they will be done like they were last year. There will be a moment of silence for
Alfred Johnson and others who have attended in the past and are no longer with us. Pastor Bruce
Hobbs will facilitate this. Margaret Sandberg will be asked if she wants to speak before the dinner.
COMMITTEE ACTION ITEMS
Sue LaCrosse said the programs and name tags are done. Students from Brooklyn Center High
School will video tape the program. The Special Events Committee will pay for their dinners.
CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION
Sue Low reported on the Centennial Celebration meeting. She said we will have something
available at the birthday party to hype the Centennial. Councilmember Kay Lasman showed the
banner that will be hung so people will see it when they leave. Dr. Duane Orn said the chamber
did nice banners which were put up at businesses. The door prize drawings will be done even
faster than last year.

ADJOURNMENT
There was a motion by Dale Greenwald, seconded by Tom Shinnick to adjourn the meeting. The
meeting was adjourned.
