BROOKLYN CENTER SPECIAL EVENTS COMMITTEE
THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 25, 2010, 4:30 PM
MEETING MINUTES
Phil Cohen called the Brooklyn Center Special Events Committee meeting to order at
4:30 p.m.
ATTENDANCE
Phil Cohen, President; Baylon Loosbrock, Treasurer; Len Lasman, Scroll; Tom Shinnick, Lions Club;
Sue Low; Councilmember Kay Lasman; Doug Darnell; Pastor Bruce Hobbs, Vice-President; Dorothy
Jacobson, Women’s Club; Dr. Duane Orn; Sue LaCrosse, recreation staff liaison.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
There was a motion by Doug Darnell, seconded by Pastor Bruce Hobbs to approve the minutes of
February 4, 2010. Motion carried.
TREASURER’S REPORT
Baylon Loosbrock reported a bank balance of $604.77. We still have some income coming from the
City from dinner and donation money they received above expenses. It was suggested we amend the
2010 budget. There was a motion by Sue Low, seconded by Pastor Bruce Hobbs to amend the
budget to include a stipend of $50 each to Earle Brown & Northport Elementary Schools and a
stipend of $150 plus supplies not to exceed $50 to BCHS for video taping. Motion carried.
CIVIC AWARDS
Everything went really good during the presentation. Sue LaCrosse said it was the smoothest year
ever in receiving the nomination forms.
PROGRAM/ENTERTAINMENT
Pastor Bruce Hobbs said he heard good comments about the family band. The Cooper High Chamber
Singers were excellent and even sang along during Dale’s song.
COMMITTEE ACTION ITEMS
Phil Cohen congratulated everyone on doing a great job.
DINNER
Pastor Hobbs said several people complained about the dinner. Councilmember Kay Lasman and
Sue LaCrosse have already come up with options for next year.
NEW BUSINESS
The committee discussed options for 2011 and estimated the number of people they think will
attend. Phil Cohen said he will not sign the contract. Phil Cohen has a speaker in mind. Which
school group should we invite? It is District 11’s turn. What will we have for entertainment?

The Historical Society has requested the 2010 award recipients and the Special Events committee
names for their website. It was suggested we send them the 2010 program as it has the
information they are requesting.
NEXT MEETING
To be determined. Sue LaCrosse suggested the committee meet in the spring once or twice to
iron out more details for 2011.
ADJOURNMENT
There was a motion by Dorothy Jacobson, seconded by Tom Shinnick to adjourn the meeting.
The meeting was adjourned.
