BROOKLYN CENTER SPECIAL EVENTS COMMITTEE
THURSDAY, JANUARY 14, 2010, 4:30 PM
MEETING MINUTES
Pastor Bruce Hobbs called the Brooklyn Center Special Events Committee meeting to order at
4:33 p.m.
ATTENDANCE
Tony Kuefler, Taxpayers Association; Baylon Loosbrock, Treasurer; Len Lasman, Scroll; Tom
Shinnick, Lions Club; Sue Low; Councilmember Kay Lasman; Pastor Bruce Hobbs, Vice-President;
Mayor Tim Willson; Margaret Sandberg, Theme Development; Joy Reinhart, Earle Brown Days
Chair; Sue LaCrosse, recreation staff liaison.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
There was a motion by Tony Kuefler, seconded by Councilmember Kay Lasman to approve the
minutes of December 17, 2009. Motion carried.
TREASURER’S REPORT
Baylon Loosbrock reported a balance of $2,726.83 in checking. Tony Kuefler said he thought the
Taxpayer’s Association had donated $200. Sue LaCrosse will check. Tom Shinnick presented a
$200 check from the business association. Councilmember Kay Lasman reported Crime Prevention is
committed to a donation. There was a motion by Tony Kuefler, seconded by Sue Low to approve the
Treasurer’s Report. Motion carried.
Phil Cohen, President arrived and began running the meeting.
CIVIC GROUP INVOLVEMENT
Civic group donations are reflected in the treasurer’s report.
THEME DEVELOPMENT
Margaret Sandberg reported she visited with the two teachers at Northport and we will really like
what they are doing. She said Laurie Rondesvedt’s decorations are coming along.
CIVIC AWARDS
Sue LaCrosse reported the following nominees for the civic awards:
BC Business Association-Gena Johnston; BC Charitable Foundation-Byron Laher; BC Community
Prayer Breakfast-Nancy Rademacher; BC Crime Prevention Program-Don Egnell; BC ISD #286-
Park Nicollet Foundation, Dr. Chris Johnson; BC Lioness-Alice Humke; BC Lions Club-Monte Dehn;
BC Rotary-Bill Swanson; BC Special Events Committee-Jerry Woods; BC Taxpayers Association-
Dave Kiser; BC Women’s Club-Marie Tromiczak; Brooklyn Center Youth Collaborative-Lonte Hill;
MN Business Women-North Hennepin Local-Pat Weitzel.
We still need the written nomination forms for Gena Johnston, Don Egnell and Lonte Hill. The Earle
Brown Days Committee was going to nominate Medtronic Foundation but they did not respond. The
committee has a meeting on Tuesday and should come up with another nomination. She said the

Riverwood Association will not submit a nomination this year. Phil Cohen said the Historical Society
is meeting tonight and will make a decision whether they want to nominate someone.
PROGRAM/ENTERTAINMENT
Councilmember Kay Lasman reported everything is all set. She needs a count of the number of
scouts attending. The timeline on the contract needs to be adjusted to reflect the earlier start time.
The color guard should arrive at 5:30 p.m. She said we will need to give a preliminary count one
week before and a final count three days before.

CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION
Mayor Tim Willson reported the Council has approved the Centennial Celebration Committee
under the Special Events Committee. He said Keith Lester is working on getting a committee
together and a budget. Phil Cohen thanked Councilmember Kay Lasman and Mayor Tim Willson
for their support.
TABLE FAVORS
Phil Cohen ordered the pens. Sue Low will do notepads.
OTHER
Councilmember Kay Lasman asked if Dale Greenwald’s band will need risers again. Last year he had
two risers for $40 each, which he paid for. Sue LaCrosse will contact him. There was a question
about using a riser for video taping. Sue LaCrosse said Alfred Johnson would like to set up his
camera on an aisle table. His camera will be on wheels and he will be moving around and will not
need a riser. Baylon Loosbrock is taking classes and will assist Alfred at the birthday party.
There was a motion by Tony Kuefler, seconded by Pastor Bruce Hobbs to approve the contract of
$350 for Joe Brough. Motion carried.
Phil Cohen said he does not feel comfortable signing a Heritage Center room contract for 2011. He
doesn’t know what we are going to do. The Heritage Center will contact Sue LaCrosse if someone
else inquires about the room.

ADJOURNMENT
There was a motion by Councilmember Kay Lasman, seconded by Pastor Bruce Hobbs to adjourn
the meeting. The meeting was adjourned.
