BROOKLYN CENTER SPECIAL EVENTS COMMITTEE
THURSDAY, JANUARY 28, 2010, 4:30 PM
MEETING MINUTES
Phil Cohen called the Brooklyn Center Special Events Committee meeting to order at
4:32 p.m.
ATTENDANCE
Phil Cohen, President; Tony Kuefler, Taxpayers Association; Baylon Loosbrock, Treasurer; Len
Lasman, Scroll; Tom Shinnick, Lions Club; Sue Low; Councilmember Kay Lasman; Doug Darnell;
Pastor Bruce Hobbs, Vice-President; Dale Greenwald; Dr. Duane Orn; Sue LaCrosse, recreation staff
liaison.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
There was a motion by Doug Darnell, seconded by Dorothy Jacobson to approve the minutes of
January 21, 2010. Motion carried.
TREASURER’S REPORT
Baylon Loosbrock reported a bank balance of $1,714.53. Based on projected dinner reservation, it is
projected we will have a balance of approximately $150 after the party. There was a motion by
Pastor Bruce Hobbs, seconded by Len Lasman to approve the Treasurer’s Report. Motion carried.
CIVIC GROUP INVOLVEMENT
Phil Cohen asked for an invoice for the Historical Society. Dr. Orn will call Alfred Johnson’s son to
see if he will accept the award for him.
THEME DEVELOPMENT
Joanne & Tony Kuefler, Dorothy Jacobson, Dr. Orn, Doug Darnell, Sue Low & Sue LaCrosse can
help set up for the birthday party. Councilmember Kay Lasman and Len Lasman may be able to help.
Sue LaCrosse said that Margaret Sandberg has requested we report to the Heritage Center at Noon.
CIVIC AWARDS
Sue LaCrosse passed around copies of the how the award plates will look. Tony Kuefler will check
with Keith Lester to see if Dr. Chris Johnson or Park Nicollet Foundation should be in all caps.
PROGRAM/ENTERTAINMENT
Councilmember Kay Lasman said it is set.
COMMITTEE ACTION ITEMS
Alfred Johnson is ill and will not be able to video tape the program. Baylon Loosbrock is taking a
course at Northwest Community Television on Saturday. He will do his best to video tape. Doug
Darnell suggested asking students at BCHS to do it. Phil Cohen will follow up with a request. The
student would receive a complimentary dinner and would work with Baylon.
We received a call from someone who does not eat cheese. Councilmember Kay Lasman said an

alternate menu choice for this person is plain chicken with rice pilaf. She will call in a count
tomorrow and the final count is due three days before. At that point we are committed to that
number and we cannot go over.
There was a motion by Pastor Bruce Hobbs, seconded by Dorothy Jacobson to approve the printed
program. Motion carried.
CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION

Councilmember Kay Lasman asked if a banner could be made to promote the 100 Birthday
Party. Sue LaCrosse said she would make a banner.
Sue LaCrosse said the Centennial Committee will meet next week.

ADJOURNMENT
There was a motion by Dale Greenwald, seconded by Tom Shinnick to adjourn the meeting. The
meeting was adjourned.
