HomeMy WebLinkAbout2010 04-15 SECM BROOKLYN CENTER SPECIAL EVENTS COMMITTEE THURSDAY, APRIL 15, 2010, 4:30 PM MEETING MINUTES Phil Cohen called the Brooklyn Center Special Events Committee meeting to order at 4:30 p.m. ATTENDANCE Phil Cohen, President; Baylon Loosbrock, Treasurer; Councilmember Kay Lasman; Len Lasman; Dorothy Jacobson; Mayor Tim Willson; Sue LaCrosse, recreation staff liaison. APPROVE MINUTES There was a motion by Len Lasman, seconded by Dorothy Jacobson to approve the minutes of March 18, 2010. Motion carried. TREASURER’S REPORT Baylon Loosbrock reported a balance of $1,707.63 in checking. There was a motion by Dorothy Jacobson, seconded by Councilmember Kay Lasman to approve the treasurer’s report. Motion carried. BUDGET Sue LaCrosse reviewed the budget spreadsheet. Len Lasman reported the Lions Club would be donating $500. Councilmember Kay Lasman asked if we should budget for something more razzle dazzle and said the actual dinner cost would be $31-$32 including tax and gratuities. Mayor Tim Willson said the bigger room is better. The committee asked Sue LaCrosse about putting the birthday party in City Watch on a full page in the fall and winter issues. She said because of budget cuts, pages were being eliminated. The cost of a page is approximately $250. Mayor Tim Willson said he will raise the money to place a full page in the fall and winter issues of City Watch. Phil Cohen said Rotary is budgeting $500 for Centennial. THEME DEVELOPMENT Sue LaCrosse reported for Margaret Sandberg. She said Margaret would like Party of the Century for the theme. There was a motion by Len Lasman, seconded by Dorothy Jacobson to approve the theme. Motion carried. PROGRAM/ENTERTAINMENT There was a motion by Dorothy Jacobson, seconded by Baylon Loosbrock to approve the entertainment. Motion carried. Councilmember Kay Lasman said she is still trying to contact the BC Jazz Band director. AWARDS Phil Cohen suggested giving out a small award for all past recipients. Councilmember Kay Lasman said it would need to be fairly nice. She would not want to pay $5 for something crummy. There was a motion by Baylon Loosbrock, seconded by Dorothy Jacobson to approve Phil Cohen to investigate 1 the options. Motion carried. OTHER BUSINESS Sue LaCrosse suggested we consider giving a mug or something for each person. Baylon Loosbrock suggested a gold dollar. NEXT MEETING September 16, 4:30 p.m. ADJOURNMENT There was a motion by Len Lasman, seconded by Dorothy Jacobson to adjourn the meeting.
