BROOKLYN CENTER SPECIAL EVENTS COMMITTEE
THURSDAY, DECEMBER 16, 2010, 4:30 PM
MEETING MINUTES
Phil Cohen called the Special Events Committee meeting to order at 4:30 p.m.
ATTENDANCE
Phil Cohen, President; Margaret Sandberg, Theme Development; Baylon Loosbrock, Treasurer;
Doug Darnell, Tom Shinnick, Lions Club; Dr. Duane Orn; Tony Kuefler, Taxpayers; Dorothy
Jacobson, Women’s Club; and Sue LaCrosse, recreation staff liaison.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
There was a motion by Doug Darnell, seconded by Dorothy Jacobson to approve the minutes of
November 18, 2010. Motion carried.
TREASURER’S REPORT
Baylon Loosbrock reported he paid the bill of $239.40 for the postcards. There is $1,468.23 in
checking. There was a donation of $250 received from the Legion and $500 from Taxpayers. Phil
Cohen said a check for $200 will be coming from the Charitable Foundation. There was a motion by
Tony Kuefler, seconded by Doug Darnell to approve treasurer’s report. Motion carried.
GIVE-A-WAYS
Phil Cohen said the mugs are too expensive. He said the Centennial committee agreed to split the
cost of the customized notepads with the Special Events committee. The cost is $.76¢ each. There
was a motion by Margaret Sandberg, seconded by Dorothy Jacobson to accept the offer from the
Centennial committee and order the notepads. Motion carried. The notepad will be set up as
follows: City of Brooklyn Center, Centennial, 1911-2011. (On three separate lines.)
CIVIC AWARDS
There was a motion by Margaret Sandberg, seconded by Tom Shinnick to nominate Mary Jane
Gustafson for the civic award from the Special Events Committee. Motion carried. Sue LaCrosse
will try to contact her son to see if he would accept on her behalf.
SPEAKERS
The committee is not in favor of additional speakers that would take away from the social/dinner
time. Phil Cohen asked for the committee to agree to a tentative 10 min. window before dinner. The
committee said they are opposed to representatives of the governor, senators, etc. speaking.
NEXT MEETING
The next meeting will be held Thursday, January 6 at 4:30 p.m.
ADJOURNMENT
There was a motion by Doug Darnell, seconded by Dorothy Jacobson to adjourn the meeting.
The meeting was adjourned at 5:28 p.m.
