BROOKLYN CENTER SPECIAL EVENTS COMMITTEE
THURSDAY, JANUARY 6, 2011, 4:30 PM
MEETING MINUTES
Phil Cohen called the Special Events Committee meeting to order at 4:30 p.m.
ATTENDANCE
Phil Cohen, President; Baylon Loosbrock, Treasurer; Doug Darnell, Tom Shinnick, Lions Club; Dr.
Duane Orn; Tony Kuefler, Taxpayers; Dorothy Jacobson, Women’s Club; Sue Low; Councilmember
Kay Lasman; Pastor Bruce Hobbs, Vice-President; Len Lasman, Scroll; Dale Greenwald; and Sue
LaCrosse, recreation staff liaison.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
There was a motion by Tony Kuefler, seconded by Pastor Bruce Hobbs to approve the minutes of
December 16, 2010. Motion carried.
TREASURER’S REPORT
Baylon Loosbrock reported $2,218.23 in checking. There was a donation of $250 received from the
Legion and $500 from Taxpayers. Phil Cohen said a check for $200 will be coming from the
Charitable Foundation. There was a motion by Len Lasman, seconded by Dale Greenwald to approve
treasurer’s report. Motion carried. Dale Greenwald presented the committee with a donation for
$500. Tom Shinnick presented the committee with a $200 from the BCBA.
GIVE-A-WAYS
Phil Cohen said he did not factor in the cost of shipping for the notepads. They will be a little more.
The cost per organization for the notepads is $220.95. Total cost of the notepads is $441.90. The
Centennial committee approved giving a Centennial pen to each person attending the party.
CIVIC AWARDS
Sue LaCrosse reported the civic award recipients to date. We will have 20.
PROGRAM
Phil Cohen said he will contact BCHS for video taping.
TIMELINE
Sue LaCrosse distributed a tentative timeline that she put together. Tony Kuefler, Doug Darnell and
Baylon Loosbrock will meet to figure out the Last Person Standing award and the door prize
drawings.
DOOR PRIZES
Dorothy Jacobson reported she has 71 door prizes. They are all pretty nice. Sue Low will also get
some door prizes.
OTHER
Phil Cohen proposed we give each of the degree Knights a drink ticket. Councilmember Kay Lasman
said it would be at a cost of $4.50 per ticket. The committee requested that Phil Cohen find out how
many Knights will be in the procession before they can make a decision.

Sue Low asked if the Centennial committee could put out table tents highlighting the Centennial. It
will be noted in the minutes for discussion at the January 13 meeting.
NEXT MEETING
The next meeting will be held Thursday, January 13 at 4:30 p.m.
ADJOURNMENT
There was a motion by Doug Darnell, seconded by Tom Shinnick to adjourn the meeting. The
meeting was adjourned at 5:25 p.m.
