HomeMy WebLinkAbout2011 01-20 SECM BROOKLYN CENTER SPECIAL EVENTS COMMITTEE THURSDAY, JANUARY 20, 2011, 4:30 PM MEETING MINUTES Phil Cohen called the Special Events Committee meeting to order at 4:30 p.m. ATTENDANCE Phil Cohen, President; Baylon Loosbrock, Treasurer; Doug Darnell, Tom Shinnick, Lions Club; Dr. Duane Orn; Tony Kuefler, Taxpayers; Sue Low; Dorothy Jacobson, Women’s Club; Margaret Sandberg; Dale Greenwald; Pastor Bruce Hobbs, Vice-President; Councilmember Kay Lasman; Len Lasman; and Sue LaCrosse, recreation staff liaison. APPROVAL OF MINUTES There was a motion by Doug Darnell, seconded by Tom Shinnick to approve the minutes of January 13, 2011. Motion carried. TREASURER’S REPORT Baylon Loosbrock reported $2,427.28 in checking. There was a motion by Pastor Bruce Hobbs, seconded by Dorothy Jacobson to approve the Treasurer’s report. Motion carried. CIVIC AWARDS Sue LaCrosse reported we are still waiting for a few nomination forms. THEME DEVELOPMENT Margaret Sandberg said the decorations will knock our socks off. Pastor Bruce Hobbs has some additional mirror tiles we can use. Sue LaCrosse will check with Tara at EBHC to see if we can start setting up at 11:00 a.m. Tony, Joanne, Dr. Orn, Doug, Dorothy, Dan, Bruce, Donna, Kay, Len and Sue can help. ROOM SETUP There was a motion by Tony Kuefler, seconded by Dr. Duane Orn to approve the addition of two risers for Midnight Breeze. Motion carried. Councilmember Kay Lasman, Pastor Hobbs and Sue LaCrosse will assist with helping people find their tables. Dorothy Jacobson will find one more hostess for check-in. Since there are so many reserved tables, a sign with “Open Seating” will be placed on the open tables. PROGRAM Phil Cohen will follow up with the people at BCHS who are doing the video taping. Dr. Duane Orn and Tony Kuefler will finalize the details with the Knights of Columbus. Tony Kuefler said 24 people are eligible for the Last Person Standing award. OTHER Sue LaCrosse said she would like to have a committee picture taken. Councilmember Kay Lasman suggested right before 5:00 p.m. Phil Cohen asked this be tabled to the next meeting. Sue Low said she has received a request for a free table from someone who may purchase up to 10 1 tables. The free table has been requested for youth. Sue Low said she is working with Jim Glasoe to see if they can find some money from the Youth Collaborative fund. There was a motion by Pastor Bruce Hobbs, seconded by Len Lasman that we will not give out any free tables. Motion carried. Sue Low reported she is working on the veteran table. It will sit to the side as you walk into the room. Pastor Bruce Hobbs will read the information. Sue Low said she has had a request from the Historical Society to have a table to display information and sell books. There was a motion by Dr. Duane Orn, seconded by Len Lasman that we do not permit promotional materials displayed at this event. Motion carried. NEXT MEETING The next meeting will be held Thursday, January 27 at 4:30 p.m. ADJOURNMENT There was a motion by Councilmember Kay Lasman, seconded by Dorothy Jacobson to adjourn the meeting.
