BROOKLYN CENTER SPECIAL EVENTS COMMITTEE
THURSDAY, MARCH 24, 2011, 4:30 PM
MEETING MINUTES
Phil Cohen called the Special Events Committee meeting to order at 4:30 p.m.
ATTENDANCE
Phil Cohen, President; Baylon Loosbrock, Treasurer; Doug Darnell, Tom Shinnick, Lions Club; Dr.
Duane Orn; Margaret Sandberg; Councilmember Kay Lasman; Len Lasman; Sue Low and Sue
LaCrosse, recreation staff liaison.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
There was a motion by Doug Darnell, seconded by Sue Low to approve the minutes of February 3,
2011. Motion carried.
TREASURER’S REPORT
Baylon Loosbrock reported the net loss for the 2011 birthday party was $386.42. The cash balance
remaining of $1,521.21is an accumulation of operating capital over the past 10 years. There was a
motion by Tom Shinnick, seconded by Margaret Sandberg to approve the Treasurer’s Report.
Motion carried.
THEME DEVELOPMENT
Margaret Sandberg said what a great job the kids did with the decorations. The artwork was hung at
the BC Birthday Bash event at BCHS. Phil Cohen told the committee Eileen Oslund said the party
was very well done from start to finish and said the decorations were amazing.
CIVIC AWARDS
Phil Cohen said one person claimed theirs was broken.
PROGRAM/ENTERTAINMENT
Phil Cohen said it worked well with the political guests thanks to Sharon Kephart. Margaret
Sandberg said many people could not see or hear the speakers. They needed to be on the risers. We
should have had the program on the screens.
TIMELINE
Phil Cohen said the key was that the timeline was enforced. People were paying $35 for a meal and
they expected a good dinner. He was happy Sue Low slid in the Brookdale Chevrolet billboard and
that Dr. Orn did a Centennial promo.
HERITAGE CENTER
The Heritage Center did a great job.
OTHER
Sue LaCrosse asked Councilmember Kay Lasman to distribute a DVD of the Birthday Party to each
of the Councilmembers.

FUND BALANCE
There was a motion by Doug Darnell, seconded by Sue Low to give the remainder of the funds from
the Special Events Committee to the City of Brooklyn Center – Centennial. Motion carried.
DISSOLUTION
There was a motion by Sue Low, seconded by Doug Darnell to dissolve the organization according to
State Law and to deduct any expenses from the cash balance, including any filing costs, before giving
the remainder of the funds to the City of Brooklyn Center – Centennial. Motion carried.
ADJOURNMENT
There was a motion by Len Lasman, seconded by Tom Shinnick to adjourn the meeting. The
meeting was adjourned.
