adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 2012-153
RESOLUTION SUPPORTING HENNEPIN COUNTY'S PEDESTRIAN AND
BICYCLE PLANNING SERVICES GRANT AWARD FOR THE CITY OF
BROOKLYN CENTER
WHEREAS, Hennepin County solicited grant applications for pedestrian and
bicycle planning services as part of the Community Transformation Grant through the Centers for
Disease Control to increase opportunities for individuals to walk and bicycle; and
WHEREAS, eligible cities included Brooklyn Park, Crystal, Eden Prairie, New
Hope, Osseo, Robbinsdale, and Brooklyn Center; and
WHEREAS, the objective of this program is to provide a framework for
investments in healthy community design to increase rates of walking and bicycling by engaging
communities about improving conditions for walking and bicycling through the development of
strategies including engineering, education, encouragement, and enforcement; and
WHEREAS, the objective of this program is supported by the City of Brooklyn
Center's values and goals, supported by City's comprehensive plan and supported by the City's
continued effort as part of Active Living Hennepin County; and
WHEREAS, in an effort to collectively assess the City's, Three Rivers Park
District's and Hennepin County's overlapping and complimenting pedestrian transportation system,
the City requested and has been notified of said grant award to the City of Brooklyn Center.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, that the Mayor and City Council support the City's pedestrian and
bicycle planning services grant award with the ultimate goal to increase opportunities for individuals
to walk and bicycle more often.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Brooklyn Center,
Minnesota, that the Mayor and City Council support designating and committing the means
necessary to ensure the planning process leads to a completed pedestrian and bicycle plan for the
entire City.

The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by member
Dan Ryan
and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof:
Tim Willson, Carol Kleven, Kay Lasman, Lin Myszkowski, and Dan Ryan;
and the following voted against the same: none;
whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted.
