Call to order. Website update – Vickie Schleuning updated the committee on how the Centennial website is coming along. The Band shell will become clearer once the park & rec commission and city council meet. Dr. Orn said Janis is wondering who he works for. We got a letter from Janis stating what he will do. Naming – Centennial Memorial band shell. Jeff Delzer has met with someone from a Veterans organization and will meet with Myra of the Legion. Joy Reinhart expressed concern that it not be under construction during EBD. Robert Marvin said it doesn’t take long once it starts. Jeff Delzer reported on pavers. Brent Haugen reported what Visit Minneapolis North will be able to do. Destination Guide, calendar of events, banner on the website, reaching 5-8,000 for women’s expos and 10,000 for th kid’s expos. Facebook & Twitter. Visit Mpls N will be celebrating its 25 birthday. Visit Mpls N is also interested in the all Brooklyn Center reunion. They would like a mailing list to send them a postcard to visit and hopefully do an overnight stay at the hotels. Keith will get him the lists. August – It Takes a Village State fair, National Night Out, Renaissance Festival. Brent suggested enhancing the current events, signature events. If you have so many events, who will run them. Keith clarified that the committee will not run all of these events, but will support other events throughout the year. Brent suggested adding to the signature events to enhance them. Keith will not do the events but someone else will be them carrying out. April – American & National Little Leagues will have opening days – Mayor suggested these as events. Curt asked what will they offer the groups to have an event, what do we give them. How do we pull them in? Keith sees that they would be included in the special City Watch issue. Encourage them to use the logo. And ask them to put us on their website as we will do on ours. Jeff suggested putting an envelope in the city watch asking for donations. Keith has a formal process and Phil has specific contacts he wants to make. September Rash Hashanah, Labor Day, State Fair, School Starts, Renaissance. Festival, Focus on Work Careers, Surley Fest, North Memorial Men’s Health, appreciation day – police, fire, Hennepin County, anyone who services Brooklyn Center. Patriots day is in September. North Memorial always does a Women’s Health Fair in Maple Grove. Maybe they would switch to Brooklyn Center. Joy would like to see a mayoral mandate for the going red - Heart month. th September 10 – this year’s BCBA golf tournament. Ceap Taste of NW – May. But maybe ask them to do it in September. CEAP Food Drive. 100 pounds of food. Curt will contact Surley. Three Rivers Park District to organize a run – Brent will contact. October Kids Halloween Party, Agriculture (truck farms, EB farm), Brooklyn Historical Society. Kite flying event – Brent knows an organization and he will check on it. November Holiday Bazaar at St. Al’s, Thanksgiving. Send letters to organizations and churches and ask them, “have you got anything scheduled that you would like to have included on our centennial calendar”. Veteran’s Day. December Holly Sunday, Hot Air Balloon, Holiday music showcase, Holly weekend starting Friday at the high school. The auditorium seats 500. Movies in the park. Buy out one of the movies at the discount theater - February. 300,000 lbs. Eagan’s goal. Go red – the mayor said we will go red the first Friday in February. Heritage Days – or International Days – Monique has some nice contacts. Curt said the City may organize it. Sue will contact Myrna. Time capsule – old one (pulled out). February. Recap February – Women’s health NM , buy out discount theater for families- Robert, Birthday Party - st Phil, Go Red 1 Friday in February- Joy , promotion around Go Red. March, women’s groups- Joy, wedding dress show- Margaret, Youth Determined to Succeed- Sue LaCrosse. April – Keep BC beautiful- Diane & Jill (Keith), Newspaper Drive- Robert, Little league – Mayor, Easter, Passover, Arbor Day, Earth Day, Community Garden. May Mother’s Day, Asian Pacific, Janelle – Older American’s Month (maybe Senior coronation), Prayer Breakfast – Pastor Hobbs. (May 7), Memorial Day. Jeff Veterans, Myrna. June Rockin’ Hollywoods - Sue, parade of the puppies, dog show, organizations that have visiting animals, car show – Karen, BC talent – Keith, air force band for the parade or the U of M – Curt, vintage car show, Cub store – Mike coupons, youth street performers- Curt, Dunkin’s Party, teen night – Keith, golf tournament, Singer from National Night Out, helicopter rides, animals, helicopter – Jeff, pony rides- Cathy, pie, corn eating contest- Joy, other events for EBD. Myrna Honor veterans, Jeff – airplane flyer over, food drive with coupons from taco bell, art show- Keith July Cultural Night Out - Curt will check with Monique and Sue will check with Myrna. At the next meeting everyone should bring the information. Report back on those things and Keith will have the promotional packets.
